    Cause I don't. They are from the end of "The Ultimate Oz" LaserDisc.

    Just going by the effect I see, I'm guessing they are supposed to test comb filter performance. For the first 3 frames in each case, the image has those checkerboard grids. Then random specks pop in and out along a "solid" background for the rest of the pattern.

  2. I won't bet the farm on this, but I think those may be artifacts left over in the TBC buffer after a tape rollout.

    What is tape rollout?

  4. Tape rollout is when the tape either literally runs off the end of the reel or past the end of control track. The videos you've posted do not match your stills, BTW.

    What's tape got to do with this, though?

    The first two are from 13s into the video and the second pair are from 14s.

    The source master was certainly tape. Whether analog or digital depends on when it was done.
