I am using Fraps to record game play footage at 1920x1080 at 30fps. I then use Vegas Pro 11 to edit the video clips and add music and transitions. Everything goes fine until it is time to "Render As".
I want to be able to upload these videos to YouTube while keeping the highest video quality as possible. In Vegas I create a new project that matches the video clips properties. When I click "Render As" I tick off "Match Project Settings" hoping that will show me only the templates that are going to work with my videos. The only template I've been able to successfully render a video with is "Video for Windows (*.avi)" "HD 1080-60i YUV". This results in a HUGE file. I don't mind that, I have plenty of HD space. After this render is complete I use Handbrake, "Regular" preset "High Profile" to re-encode the file to .mp4. This brings the file size down dramatically while preserving video quality. I'm happy with the outcome but there has to be a way to encode directly to .mp4 in Vegas so I don't have to re-encode in Handbrake?

How can I Render As to .mp4 in Vegas Pro 11? The only Template option I see with .mp4 is "XDCAM EX (*.MP4)" "HQ 1920x1080-60i, 35 Mbps VBR". Whenever I try to use this Template, Vegas crashes at random points during the render.

Any help would be great, thanks in advance!

with every version of vegas it seems to switch back and forth from sony avc to mainconcept but for version 11 i think mainconcept won. use the template for internet 1080p. you do NOT want to upload 1080i to youtube.

Thanks for the reply. When I try to render using that template I get "An error occurred while creating the media file. The reason for the error could not be determined"
That template doesn't show up at all when I check "Output Format" "Match Project Settings"

Not sure what I'm doing wrong...

EDIT: I adjusted the project properties to progressive and that template did in fact show up, it still threw up the same error when I tried to render with it though...

Did you try using 'Render using CPU only' (encode mode)?

Choose a template, or create a new one, that matches your project settings.
