  1. Hi all,

I recently made a hasty decision and bought a 3d projector without much research.... After spending hours reading through forums i found i had to rip my BRdvds using a friends PC in order to play them through my laptop and into the projector using stereoscopic player.

The projector is an acer 110x which has a native resolution of 800 x 400. I have made MKV files using makeMKV but most stutter when played through stereoscopic player in pageflip mode.

I want to reduce the resolution and bitrate of the files to try and lower the burden on my laptop, could someone please advise a good program for doing this and what settings should i use?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Dan

800x400 is below dvd quality. not HD at all. can the "3d" projector handle half side-by-side or half over-under?

Is this a used purchase? Otherwise I'd see if you can still return it.

Yeah, what model is this "3D" projector?

Once known, we could maybe help with the cropping + resizing...

OK, somehow I missed that first time.

So that projector is actually 800x600 (aka SVGA) in resolution. Not great. Also, it is what is known as "3D ready" in PC mode. This means it is NOT compliant with modern consumer 3D standards such as HDMI 1.4, but rather is similar/equivalent to 3DVision systems. It is able to go into 120Hz "Frame Sequential" mode (aka 2x normal 60Hz/60FPS) and would utilize Active LC Shutter glasses (of which signalling format I'm not sure). Luckily, it doesn't require a Silver/Non-depolarizing screen. The glasses signalling is either transmitted from the video card (on the PC) sending the signal, or from the projector. You'll have to read up on the proj. manual to see which. If it's the vid card, then your choice will depend on the card you are using.

You should be able to see 2xViews of 800x600 @ 60 Fps with this setup, using something like Stereoscopic Player and and nVidia 3Dvision-compatible card.

However, this does quite limit the utility of the 3D capability because of the necessity for prepping your footage for SP and always using a PC as a source. If you have the chance, I'd strongly recommend you send it back and get a proj. that is more CE-friendly, using HDMI 1.4 3D compatibility. Those at least can use both PC and settops (such as 3DBD players) as inputs.

    Good luck,

    Scott

If you want to prep for SP, there are lots of ways and lots of apps, but many around here find custom AVISynth scripts to be most useful, when married with a high quality encoder such as x.264.
Whichever way you go, I would suggest you format in compliance with common standards. Unfortunately, 800x600@120fps frame-sequential isn't a common standard. Maybe you should keep the HiQual HD masters but also make versions specifically coded for the proj. like 800x1200 t/b format and let SP reformat on the fly to frame sequential (aka pageflip).

However, the idea that your current setup cannot handle mkv bd rips tells me that your laptop is probably too underpowered to be up for this job.
