  1. Hello. Is there any application that allows previewing in real time, encoding audio and video of a movie and instantly displaying it on the screen, instead of only letting the user encode a part of it and playing it after the conversion has been completed?

I'm dealing with x264 and AAC or MP3, but I'm more concerned about the video stream.

I tried at least in Avidemux activating the output button under the main menu bar, but it seems to show filters results only, the video stream is the source one, not the encoded one.

I barely remember a test with another program some months ago, with the same results. Maybe it was VirtualDub or something else.

    Thank you.

Google with the string: "preview while encoding". Maybe you get some tips.

AVS Video Converter use preview while encoding.

It's more of a snapshot preview though.

Yes, a lot of serial snapshots. Because it doesn't show all the frames.
I think no program will, especially not with "heavy" parameters.

If you want to see what it's gonna be smoothly, I think it has to be like HandBrake does it. To encode a small part of the video and watch it. i.e. 30 sec.

  6. Try MediaCoder
On the PreView tab use Widowed.

  8. If you use x264 CLI to make an MKV file you can view the MKV (no seeking though) with a media player while the encoder is still running.

When I'm using x264 CLI, the output file while encoding is .h264, is it possible to view this?
Does x264 encode directly to mp4, mkv etc. too ?

VLC can view the .h264 file while the encoder is still running.

Yes, just specify an output filename with .MKV or .MP4 as the extension (this may vary depending on the build you use). But I haven't found a player that will view MP4 output while the encoder is still running.
