    Hi !

I've got a question. I'm unsure if I post a topic about a new video editing feature (video encryption) of my software is ok here on the forum. I've read the rules where it says:

    Advertising
You must contact the webmaster and get permission before you attempt to post solicitations or advertising. Anything that appears to be advertising or solicitation will be removed immediatly. This does not apply to LEGITIMATE news or user guides.
The post would include a sample video and some information about the encryption technique. So plz let me know if I can go ahead and post the topic. If not, just let me know. Thank you!

    Cheers

Well in my most humble opinion, 'contacting the webmaster' is not the same as posting a question about the issue.

Starting a topic just leaves you open to smart-ass comments like this one.

'Contact' AFAIAA means sending Baldrick a PM and raise your issues there.

    Hi DB83,

thank you for your quick reply. As I am not sure if it is considered as advertising or news (or something inbetween) I also wasn't certain if it was correct to contact the admins in this case. Hence I asked here.

    I'll do as you suggested

    Cheers

critics is fine. However, what you pointed out may turn out to be counterproductive in this case. So I better leave it. Thx anyway for your help!

Oh poo poo. I was just warming my fingers up.

Criticism should not be considered counter-productive. A second or more eyes on the subject could show you something you have overlooked and save issues in the future.

yeah, what Admin PMed me though sounded more like there's some sort of general consensus about the issue - which I didn't know btw. And I don't know if it would be advisable (for me personally) to try and promote a feature that wouldn't delight in the first place, don't want to annoy anyone. Maybe I should post about different features (added quite a number)?

ps. re. overlooking things, that's true and that's what hackers make use of

Ok. Ultimately it is your choice. But your OP was rather intriguing - 'Encryption' within Video Editing.

Maybe you are attempting some novel way of Copy Protection. I could well understand the vitrol around here if that is the case.

I wasn't thinking of copy protection when I had the idea, maybe it can be used for that, I don't know. The encryption is only visual and is meant for sharing confidential videos publicly if needed or just for the fun of it. Only users with the correct set of values will be able to decrypt the video (or hackers... if I overlooked something). The image becomes completely distorted. I can PM you the link to the vid to show what I mean.

Sound interesting. I think I have contributed enough to the thread to get a 'butchers'.

Don't worry. I'll keep my comments private unless you make the clip public.

well, if it does , I could perhaps just post the link here for you & everyone else interested. The Youtube link is public anyway:

I'll be honest with ya guys. My problem - probably like many other small programmers - is that my YT videos are simply not clicked (the 15 views so far are my own and two are by the people I mailed it to). Everytime I type encryption in the YT search I end up with RSA, Kim Dotcom etc (those topics are pretty interesting, too of course) but not really what I meant by it. So maybe making it known this way on a video forum like this one is probably the best alternative.

currently I'm still working on documentation on the website and thinking about what the new trial version may look like. There has been a freeware version so far but without a possibility to test the many other functions.

Anyways, I hope the encryption does not bother too many people, it's really just meant as a visual encryption, not as some new sort of copy protection

    Cheers
