When trying to rip subtitles from a DVD with SubRip, I am having problem when there is a % in the text (percent sign). SubRip detects it as three different characters, and I can not figure out how to teach it that this is only one character?

Have convert the first "character" to "%" then ignore the next two. Or some other combination, whichever is least likely to result in incorrect conversions later on.

You can use the ">>" button (extend selection right) to select the entire "%" character.
Another option would be to use OCR via Tesseract in Subtitle Edit. -
