I'm about to go nuts. I just got my DVR-104 today and I've yet to get a successful burn from the DVD backup I made. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?
First, I used Smartripper to backup the disc. Next, I used IFOedit to remove the region stuff. That gave me all of my VOB and IFO files in a VIDEO_TS directory on the hard drive. I could even use my player to open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and play the whole DVD. Menus and everything.
I've tried burning that VIDEO_TS directory to DVD-R and DVD-RW using the instructions for Nero and then I also tried twice using RecordNow MAX 4.0. None of these discs will play in either the Panasonic DVD-RV26 or Sony DVP-S7700 DVD players I have. They load up on the PC and laptop without any problems. The DVD-R media I am using is from cdrecordable.com. The DVD-RW media I used was Verbatim.
Does anyone know what the hell is going wrong here? Has anyone gotten this to work? Thanks!

Ok, I've at least verified it's not my media. I made a stupid little test project using DVDIt! and it plays fine on both DVD players. I have to be missing something in the way the backup is made or burned. I'm working on it now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Incidentally, if anyone is looking for cheap media that works at 2X, I highly recommend you check out http://www.cdrecordable.com They have some awesome deals and the media burns flawlessly at 2X and both my DVD players seem to read them fine. -
Not sure if anyone is really interested or not but I wanted to share the info I found...
1) If you have made a backup of a DVD movie, I suggest forgetting the "how to" that says to burn the VIDEO_TS folder to the DVDR. It will work on PC DVD players but I could not get it to work AT ALL on my standalone players. They simply would not play the disc at all. I tried everything from making settings changes to capitalizing directories to adding an AUDIO_TS directory for the hell of it, etc, etc. Nothing worked.
2) The ONLY way I was able to get this backup to work was to create a DVD image file from the VIDEO_TS directory I backed up. You can download the utility I used to do this here...

Once I burned this .IMG file (using RecordNow MAX 4.0. You can probably use Nero or others) the resulting DVDR finally WORKED on the standalone player!! The unfortunate part is that it will not play on my Sony DVP-S7700. It plays just fine on the Panasonic DVD-RV26 though. No problem. Guess it's time to find a new high-end DVD player. I'm surprised the 7700 won't read it.
