  1. I've had a good look through these forums and the info. here is great, but I can't find a cure for my problem

I've got an avi file that I want to split into 2 and convert to svcd.
I used VirtualDub 1.4.9 to split the avi into 2 (after I ripped the wav file coz VirtualDub said the audio was invalid )
Firstly, can anyone tell me why the first half of my movie is now 820MB when the orignal was only 717MB?!
Anyway, these avis play fine in Media Player on WinXP, but NOTHING I do gets a viewable mpeg file.
I've used TMPGEnc and Nero...all I get is audio (on my standalone DVD player and a piece of software called Elecard MPEG2 player), WMP won't even play the audio, it complains about the (lack of) codec.

    Please help, I'm really stuck!

    Thanks,
    Chris.

  2. First of all I would split the file first, then extract the two half WAV files(they are going to be about 500mb just for the audio).
When you encode with TMPGE using the WAV as the audio source it will compress it back to the mp2 .
Also download the latest codec from www.divx.com
Your resulting SVCD is probably going to be bigger than the half DIVX but small enough to go on 1 cd for each half.
You'll have to check this compatability list to see if your DVD can play SVCD.

  3. Hi wee haggis
    thanks for the reply.

I have the latest Divx 5 codec and I've just installed the Nimo50 codec pack.
Neither VirtualDub nor TMPGEnc will display any video when converting (so it's probably not suprising the resulting mpg file seems to be only audio )
My standalone DVD player definitely supports SVCD. It's a Dansai 852 bought from Tescos in the UK. I've played stuff on it that was directly downloaded as a (S)VCD. The problem seems to be just the way I'm converting stuff.

Thanks again to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

    Chris.

  4. Rather than making any more coasters,if you have a cd-rw ,do a bit of experimenting.
If you have any other video files(avi, divx etc),first of all open it in Virtualdub or TMPGE.If you see no video upon starting either of them ,then the output will contain no video. So don't go any further.
Try playing it in Windows Media Player or Real Player. If you still get no video ,then it sounds like a codec problem. Some folks have problems with the newer ones and go back to the older ones.
