For some reason, Potplayer stopped playing youtube URL's for me. It was working last week, not now. Anything currently going on that would cause that?

I have been using PotPlayer to play videos from YouTube URLs for a long time. A few days ago, the application started refusing to use this feature. The player keeps refreshing until it displays an error. Yesterday it was still possible to make it work by restarting PotPlayer, but today it's not working at all.

I decided to see if reinstalling would help, but it didn't. Neither did downgrading a few versions back make a difference. I'm not a VLC user, but I gave it a quick try and its URL streaming does not work either, but I'm not sure if it's somehow related.

Moreover, I'm unable to import my .reg file preferences which I store as a backup. I double-click on the file and it says that registry keys have been successfully changed, but I don't get my old preferences back. But this used to work.

I've received an e-mail reply from Daum regarding our issue. They said that the internal processing of the YouTube server has changed and that they have no solution for it at the moment.

today, when I tried to play a Youtube video, this error appeared, but then something appeared saying about an update for the Youtube extension, I clicked ok and then it started playing Youtube videos again

Failed to start playback
Unable to connect to the requested server.
-Check that the URL is correct and the server is running
-Check that you're connected to the net and PP isn't blocked by a firewall

I don't have any answer for you, because my YT usage is totally different. I sometimes play the YT videos in various browsers, a couple of which have not been updated in a long time. For example, I hated drastic changes that were made to the Opera browser, so I "froze" mine at what I considered to be the last good version, v. 99, from quite some time ago. Even though YT institutes significant changes -- presumably in an effort to thwart the various downloader apps -- this does not seem to have any effect on said older browsers. What I mostly do though is use video downloaders to save the YT videos, then play them back locally. A few YT videos will turn out to be keepers, the rest are discarded after viewing. For this downloading, I'm using -- among others -- TubeDigger, VideoGet, Allavsoft Downloader, and MediaHuman Downloader. They all need to update periodically, to successfully cope with the changes at YT. That would seem to apply in the case of programs like PotPlayer also.

by the way one thing I wanted to report here that I don't know if it's a bug or what, but apparently the thumbnails in the playlist section don't work
even with the option activated, when there is a thumbnail or cover embed, it doesn't show

Glad tidings, lads! Just like Lucas zxc showed, if you wait for the error to appear and close the dialog box, you should be asked to download that MediaPlayParse extension. I've just done so and it works! I didn't get the message the first time I tried, so just keep trying. It also allowed me to restore my preferences. I didn't expect it to be fixed that quickly. The devs are great but I feel like YouTube is being shady.

So I did this, and got the error, told it to update...streaming again, great... But now I have No sound! I have been through all the settings on PP, sound working find on other apps. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks

I saw this "PotPlayer 241015 changelog: Added the ability to adjust playback speed when pressing the mouse button" in the last change log update, and when i tried to ask in the forum of Potplayer it seems that it was closed, so i'll try to find an answer here, so i saw that in the change log but i can't seem to find an option or what is it specifically, i thought that you could just press a button on the mouse and change the speed of the video playback with the mouse wheel scrolling, and in the settings there is nothing related to that. Anyone know what is it for?

If you go to Options > General > Mouse, you will see new dropdown menus. "Left Button - Holding Down," for example. Unfortunately a selection of playback speed multiplyers are the only choices currently available.

Version 1.7.22498? They seem to release some minor fixes after the official releases released 26 february.

What would be of the most interest to me is: which version(s), including portable ones, are considered the most stable and reliable, and free of the controversial or inappropriate behavior that raised objections in some previous releases ? (I don't precisely recall how previous that was, maybe further in the past ?) Having the latest new features is less of a concern to me. But I have liked having Potplayer present as an option in the Players toolbox.

I tried everything and rolled back to the latest version 241216 from last year.
This version is free from bug I suffered from. And I'll wait for new releases with bug fixes.
Although it may take a long time before the creator or creators take notice.

Thanks very much for continuing to offer old versions of programs, whenever possible -- a very important feature that is difficult to find these days. (At least without doing an exhaustive Internet search.)

I couldn't find any email list for feedback on bug reports.
Instead, I tried the new version 250226 (March 7, 2025) and it gave the same error.
So I rolled back to version 241216 again.

I got a reply that there is no bug, that he doesn't see any bug.
But strangely enough, today's update fixed that bug.
Perhaps it was a related problem that has now been resolved.
Anyway, I'll keep the previous version of the install just in case.

It's weird. A new version of pot player was released today, and the one I installed yesterday disappeared as if it never existed. It's not even on videohelp.
I think they have a stable release problem.

They release minor fixes without any new changelog often. They released 250226 1.7.22503 yesterday. And today 250312 1.7.22506.

I'm only updating the Potplayer page when they update to a new major version (when they update the 250312 version part).

today again new update. People in the reviews are starting to worry.
and the problem with the major version is that there are a lot of bugs in it after it's released, and if you don't do anything about it, those bugs may cause you problems. and that's why most people prefer the latest version, but if updates are released every day, it's a concern.
