  1. Hi,

i have some 720p50 mpeg2 video records from my sat-reciver. The movie is aired on 1280x720@50p. The movie itself is an 25p but every frame twice. It's 25p stretched to 50p. I don't know how to describe it the best way. I can see it when i jump frame by frame.

Because the movie has black bars on top and bottom i want to reencode it to save space.

and think i can also save space by skipping every 2nd useless frame. I'd like to use Handbreak if it is possible. I tried to change the framerate in handbreak but the file size didn't changed.

is it possible to skip every 2nd frame in handbreak?

thanks for your help and greets....

I don't use Handbrake but did you actually get it down to 25fps with the same length? That is, was every other frame removed?

Didn't change from what? From the size of the source video? That entirely depends on the bitrate used. You want a smaller size? Use a lower bitrate.

As you found out, a change of frame-rate does not change the file-size. Neither will it change by cropping any black-bars.

File-size = bitrate*run-length. So you only reduce the file-size by reducing the bit-rate.
