Hey everyone I just wanted to get a couple opinions on streaming video players. I am in the market for one right now and am mainly debating between the Western Digital Live TV, or a Roku.

Both seem to have good specs... but what I am mainly interested in doing is streaming my 1080p MKV videos, which are stored on my computer's HDD, wirelessly over to my 42" LG.

I wasn't able to find a definitive answer as to whether or not the Roku supports MKV files. I did however see that the WD Live TV does. At the moment I have been trying to use my Xbox 360 as a 'Windows Media Center extender'... but there is horrible lag when I stream any 1080p movies.

If anyone has a good recommendation, and/or more info regarding these devices... I would greatly appreciate it.

    As always,

    CHEERS!

  2. Roku is not a good choice for mkv, not sure if it would play at all, it is a dedicated streamer for web platforms.
Only WDTV Live Streamer has wi-fi built in I think, not sure now about WDTV Live Hub, but perhaps you need some wireless bridge that you can hook it up to and then communication with your router will work better. With wireless bridge you can use all Wdtv networking models, Wdtv Live, Wdtv Live Plus, Wdtv Live Hub not just Wdtv Live streamer.

There is some USB-Wi-fi adapters around, not sure how reliable are those. And you have to watch what adapter is good for what model: http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Hub-General/WD-Live-Hub-USB-wireless-adapter/td-p/358703

As always cable is cable, no problems with that.
