    Ok here's what I"m thinking of doing - a realtime slingbox with a hdpvr to a ps3.

I have an N router hooked up to my cable internet modem and I just picked up another n router that has gigabit ports so I can connect that to my ps3 to get max speed on an N connection.

What I want to be able to do is stream the signal from cable dvr that goes to my hdpvr to my ps3 which will be in another room.

My question is what streaming software do you use for live broadcasts?

This would also be for recorded shows on the dvr - I would play them on the dvr and live stream them through the hdpvr.

    Does playon have this ability?

I know the major streaming software programs do files just fine and they can do some video from websites but what about a live video feed from the hdpvr?

I know an actual slingbox would be best but what about a diy version?

I also fully realize I'd have no playback controls so that would kind of suck - I'd have to sit through commercials unless I'm watching an on-demand program.

Is this an option in any of the big streaming programs? The ones I'm familiar with are playon, ps3mediaserver and tversity.

Is this too much to ask for from freeware? Are there payware options and if so how much?

    Thanks....

Edit - fyi I'm running windows vista an on a dual core amd with 2gb ram and a media drive with a 500gb capacity of which 160gb is free right now. The cable modem is lanned to the n transmitting router and that will be one room away from the ps3 that will soon be connected a receiving n router. I know I won't max out at a full 300mbps but I got that top ceiling so I can push as much through the N interface as I can possibly muster.

Edit 2 - I forgot I actually have an app on my tablet for the dvr. It can at least change the channels. I wonder if it can do full dvr controls? That would be great if I could use my tablet as a remote control in this getup.

    Thanks for writing. However:

A couple of points first off -

    I DON'T have a slingbox.

    I don't have xbmc installed

My target device is a ps3 - does xbmc work with the ps3 media server routines? Its a stock unmodded ps3 that has received all of the proper updates.

Does xbmc provide do it yourself selection settings for a capture device?

    Thanks.
