  1. I'm using Fly 2000 TV 2.38 r2 and I have some problems with it(or maybe the tv tuner)
1.If the program crash\freeze,the next time I start it(or any other program that can use my tv tuner),it shows me black screen instead of some tv channel(I have to restart the pc to fix the problem)

2.I've been using that program for many years and everything except recording works fine(quality, sound, channels, speed)but when I try to record something, there is really high chance that something may go wrong(the recording to stop because of some error)and when that happens, the recorded video till now becomes useless.

I don't know anymore what is good to be used for the audio and video channels...I always get problems.
    Video - xvid(vfw),x264(vfw),ffdshow(vfw)
Audio - mp3,wav,ac3(it works best with wav but the size becomes too big)

If I record with any resolution higher than 320x240,there is a big chance that the recording will stop at some point.
It's really hard to find correct settings that will allow me to record without errors.

Are there any known settings and best audio\video compressors to be used along with this program.

KMPlayer also can record video and I don't remember experiencing crashing\freezing while recording but the program is at least 2 or 3 times slower than fly 2000 tv and no matter what audio\video settings I choose, the file is always a lot bigger.

    This is my pc
    Pentium 4 2.8Ghz,1gb ram,6600GT the tuner is ASUS 7135 TV\FM and I'm on Windows XP SP2

Its time for you to buy a new computer and maybe migrate to Win 7.

Update to SP3, update all drivers (video, sound, chipset, directX...), try record using AMARECTV or VH CAPTURE or VIRTUALDUB.

    That's not really an answer.
I have this problem from many years and then this pc wasn't considered so weak then.

All drivers except for the video card are the newest(even if they are couple of years old).I can't update my video card drivers because I get all kind of problems(black flashing screens when I right click, bsod and so on)when I use anything newer than 81.98(which is really old)

And about SP3,I don't know why but it doesn't get along with my windows very well(a lot of problems start to happen when I update to SP3)

I'm almost certain that I can record without problems with anything other than Fly 2000 TV but that is the program I use and everything else works file

Only one program at a time can use the graphics card's Video Overlay feature. It's possible that the program window has closed but the program is still running and still has Video Overlay allocated. Start Task Manager and see if the program is still in the Process list. If it is, kill it. If it's not there then it's likely that Windows lost track of Video Overlay and your only recourse is to reboot.

Also, look to see if the program has the ability to run without Video Overlay. It will end up using more CPU power though as the CPU will be converting the incoming YUV video to RGB for display, not the graphics card. If the program doesn't have that as an option you can try forcing it by playing a video in a media player (and leave it playing) before starting the program. When it tries to get Video Overlay it will fail and hopefully fall back on Windows GDI. Once the program has started you can terminate the media player. Again, that will eat more CPU power.

Regarding compression while recording: Your computer simply isn't powerful enough for high compression codecs. Stick with fast video codecs like MJPEG, HuffYUV, and no audio compression while recording. Then convert with high compression codecs later.

  6. I know that I can't use the tuner in more than one program. If I use the tuner in some other program and try to start Fly 2000 TV,I get tray popup message but if the program crashed, the next time I try to start anything that uses the tuner,I only get black screen

Sometimes enabling\disabling the tuner from device manager fixes the problem but sometimes I have to restart the pc

The program allows me to choose video renderer
Video Renderer (VR) - this is selected
    Video Mixing Renderer (VMR)
    Video Mixing Renderer 9 (VMR9)
and have an option "Force overlay mode" which is not checked

And thanks for the tip,I'll try it if the problem appear again

And about the recording...if I use xvid\x264 and ac3,with certain settings the cpu usage is always below 30% but it's still crashing

BTW does it matters what color space I use when we are talking about lowering the cpu usage(or the color space doesn't matter)

YUY2 or some other YUV 4:2:2 colorspace usually results in the lowest CPU usage.
