It wasn't a great great movie but I will still be buying the HOBBIT on dvd or bluray when it comes out just to keep my Tolkien collection current.

Will there be an Extended Edition like they did with LOTR?

I don't know if I need an Extended version but if there was one I would like to at least wait to find out what will be in it before deciding on the "theatrical" or extended edition.

    Thanks.

There could very well be. We'll have to wait and see.

Where do you stand on the 48 fps issue?

No position as I saw the standard frame rate version albeit in imax 3d. So I don't have any personal expeirence with it.

Yeah I certainly understand that point of view.

As much as I like LOTR and all of it to be honest the Hobbit felt a bit like a retread. I mean yes its a prequel so of course its going to be retreading stuff but it did feel like a repackaging of lotr.

I still liked it as a movie and part of the Tolkien world but it just wasn't the same feeling as the trilogy.

Maybe if more time had passed from Return of the King it would have felt a bit fresher. Of course I do own the dvds but I don't watch them all the time. But I do watch bits and pieces whenever TNT reruns it to death - unfortunately the HD tnt channel crops it - BOO!!!!! Down with Cropping!!!!

That was my thought too. A musical number? Really?

Jackson really became overindulgent after LOTR. I thought there should have been a condensed version of King Kong.

    Totally agree with you there.

I think I did actually finish the movie. However wasn't there like a twenty minute section showing the engine room of the ship they were on? Ok maybe a slight exaggeration - 10 minutes then?

Actually I liked King Kong after the 1st 45 minutes ... if fact, I'd suggest even to someone who's never seen it and doesn't know the story to skip that much of the intro.

It may seem like extended editions give you more bang for the buck, but with virtually no exceptions (I'm still not sure about LOTR) I've liked the extended one less.

The only one I can think of where they should have left in the deleted scenes was The Reader. Taking them out completely lost the whole point of the story and turned it into a crappy romance. Morons.

Did you all know there's a joke in the business about movies that are way too long? "It looks like the director's cut".

You can say that again. To this day, I regret sitting through the director's cut of Watchmen

Well I picked up the Hobbit on dvd at Target for 10.00 today. I would have done the bluray but I'm not that nuts about the Hobbit so I settled on the Dvd. Too bad it doesn't have any commentary.

I did redeem the ultraviolet code and was pleasantly surprised to find out that on vudu even though it is only the sd version it is still in 5.1. Lots of their sd movies are only stereo so I was glad for that. Unfortunately the dvd isn't eligible for the disc to digital upgrade option. I wanted to get the 1080p hdx for only 5.00 extra (after buying the disc) but its not eligible right now. I'm sure it will be later.

Unfortunately none of the James Bond dvds are disc to digital eligible either.

And I've just found out my special edition James Bond dvds aren't in surround sound - the non pierce bronsan ones. I haven't watched them in awhile but I was going through them and found that out. I have several of the classic ones on the enhanced re-release discs that are in 5.1. Now I may have to go and collect some of them that are on s.e. only in my collection to get a full 5.1 set.

I have quite a few on bluray so I don't need all of them.

Edit - just found out my s.e. of view to a kill is in 5.1. Apparently the special editions of the pre-pierce brosnans are hit or miss of whether or not they had a 5.1 track. Interesting.

As I've said its been awhile since I've been through some of my james bond movies (some on dvd and some on bluray) so I didn't know these particular details.
