  1. Hi there, I would suggest to start by posting the last projeject log file, to better understand the source titles properties and the encoding settings you have already tried.

  2. The audio is roughly 3 seconds behind the video, so I was playing around trying to see if I could do anything to get things back in sync. If you see any other settings I should probably change, LMK. Thanks for the help.

  3. The audio and video preferred codecs are all default Microsoft. You should change the codecs merit to LAV Filters using the tool you find directly in AVStoDVD (Codecs > Preferred DirectShow Codecs Setup) or with Win7DSFilterTweaker.

See AVStoDVD Help/FAQ/General/Q1.5 for more details.

If you still have sync issue, come back with the new project log file.

Do you have to do this whenever you update the LAV filters? I had the Tweaker already & know I had used it initially, so I'm curious why things might have reverted back to Microsoft?

    >If you still have sync issue, come back with the new project log file.

Now the audio looks in sync when I preview, but is roughly a second late now that I've created the actual .iso file.

Sometimes Windows updates can cause the filter merit to be reset, so if you're going to use directshow, i'd check it often.

Give FFmpegsource a try for the video and audio source filters. Set it in the preferences, Avisynth tab. Save, and then re-add your source file.

  6. That seems to have finally fixed it!!! Thanks!!! I leaving my source filters at FFmpegsource likely my best bet since I've had problems with a number of other files?

I would first try the latest alpha release some changes were made in the source filter smart selection logic.
But on the otherhand, leaving it as you set it is fine also, it works great for most file types

    Guys!

How can I add extra text to the menu page in the DVD menu Editor? I see there are segments like: Title, Thumbnails and Buttons listed, but I cannot find an option to add an extra text to the element list. I want a custom text under the title in the menu.
    Quote Quote
  9. Hi Bencuri,

currently it is not possible to add an extra text as new element to the DVD Menu section. As workaround you can use the existing text elements and press some "enter" to write your custom text below.

  10. Since I upgraded to 2.8.7 I'm suddenly getting this "Warning! Title 1 output Video duration (00:00:00) is shorter than expected duration" error a lot. What setting(s) do I need to change? Here's a log. Thanks for your time.

What happened during this 30 minutes? Did you see the HCenc window open encoding the video?
Does the HCenc log file mentioned above still exist, you may want to look in there
    Quote Quote
  12. I posted the entire log. It always seems to be working properly. The HCenc window is open charting the frame progress from 0% to 100% for 30 minutes or however long it takes to make it's 2 passes encoding the video, then it tells me the duration is shorter than expected when it gets to the audio.

  13. Hi JLG/JLG,

do you get that error with all input files or only with some of them? Can you find any commonalities?

As general troubleshooting, have you tried to use default preferences (e.g. you have selected FFMpegSource instead of A2DSource)?

  14. I get it with only some of them. It seems like it sometimes doesn't like when I use MP4Splitter now, though it's the same program (albeit there's probably a better option somewhere for a free lossless program) I used a couple hundred times with version 2.8.6 & never had a problem. When I'm using it now with say a 20 minute file to just cut 15 seconds off the beginning & end, that still seems to work fine, but when I'm using it with a 4hr file to split it so I can make two separate DVD-5s instead of killing the quality by having the whole event one DVD-5 that's when it's now hit & miss.
When I started using 2.8.6 I had trouble with the sound being out of sync, and ffmpegsource was recommended, so I stuck w/ that & had much better success. Sometimes when I use ffmpeg safe mode on 2.8.7 it's out of sync again, so I tried going back to the default wavi+aften for audio. I will try redoing it with A2DSource & let you know if that helps.

  16. Hi MrC,

I've been having good luck with the disks since I updated to 2.8.8 Alpha & switched back to A2DSource. The only issue now is the disks are generally taking 9 times as long. With versions 2.6 & 2.7, a disk with roughly one 2hr video file would take 15 minutes for each pass of HCenc & then another 15 minutes for the rest. Now each pass is often taking 3-4 hours. It just chugs away at roughly 15 frames a second instead of 120+. Here's the log file for the last one I made. HCenc ju

This is because the program is doing a CPU-intensive frame rate conversion
from 30 FPS to 29.97 (DVD standard). It's using motion compensation
    From the log - Video = Video.MCJMFPS(29.97)

If you want to speed it up you can try Preferences/Avisynth Tab/Hard framerate conversion - set it to insert/drop frames.
You may notice an occasional small stutter in the output, up to you if it's acceptable or not.
Sometimes the motion compensation does some strange things and it's worse

  18. The jump frames was one of the big issues I had when I first started with 2.6, so I switched to whatever the comparable setting in the previous versions was called. Even doing 25 fps stuff my overseas relatives sent it never took even close to this amount of time. If stutter is the alternative, I guess I'm stuck w/ it taking 6-8hr to make a disk.

Not necessarily there is another setting at the preference I mentioned "blend frames", sort of in between the other two.
Uses Avisynth convertfps if you want to look it up. Perhaps you should do some test encodes of five minutes each and view them with a critical eye.
What is your 30 fps source? From a camera?

For 25 fps the program uses pulldown which does not add any appreciable time to the job

  20. Thanks for your help. Is blend frames the option the previous versions were using? Is there an easier way of doing a test encode than clipping 5 min of video & making this as a short disk?

    Start with an empty project.
Set the preference you want to test. OK out. Add your source.
Edit title settings/video tab - deselect "auto video setup" and "auto bitrate"
Avisynth tab - deselect "auto Avisynth script". Select "trim" give it a range of about 10,000 frames.
Encode and repeat for each setting you want to check

For this test it may be better to choose output/muxed mpeg2 file, then you
can look at the frames one by one in Virtualdub 2 - any stuttering, blends or other issues
    will be obvious

  22. I upgraded to the regular version of 2.8.8 & tried keeping the default preferences since I don't really understand which modes to use when anyway, but the audio on this is a couple seconds early.

  23. The audio seems ok at the beginning of the show, but grows progressively off the deeper into it I get no matter what settings I've used. I cut a clip from toward the end & tried making a little test disk of that, and the audio seemed in sync. The problem may be related to the frame rate. AVS claims the video is 29.97, but windows explorer claims it's 29.94, so I guess those fractions are adding up over time? I tried using the suggestions in FAQ audio encoding, neither FFMpegSource nor Toggle off 'Auto Delay Audio' fixed the problem, but I must be missing something somewhere because I couldn't get force audio re-encoding ('Edit Title'/'Audio'/'Audio Direct Stream Copy) to work at all. I can toggle off Auto Audio Setup, but Audio Direct Stream Copy is still grey & can't be toggled on.

I think you're on the right track, variable frame rate video.
In the preferences, Avisynth tab, set FFmpeg as the video source filter. OK out.

Add your movie and try it again

  25. The 1st one I tried w/ FFmpeg audio & video & it gave me that error I was having problems with in the previous version Error Message: Warning! Title 1 output Video duration (00:00:00) is shorter than expected duration (01:58:37). The second one I just used FFmpeg video & it made the disk, but the audio is still way off by the end.
