What's the best app that can join m2ts/mp4 format files into one, without changing video/audio quality. And if there is any that can make a "history file" so if you in the future want the files split again, that it makes them look just as they where from the beginning.

Now I know some files will be recorded in different video setting/quality and also maybe audio. How will this effect the one file?

Many can join files. However if they don't have the same specifications they will have to be reencoded into a new file and not just joined. Try avidemux for starters (file - append).

But as I mentioned you'll run into problems with files of different properties.

So you mean if I join a blu-ray movie that has the main track movie DTS-HD Master Audio and other tracks recorded in other audio, not DTS-HD Master Audio, that would cause trouble?

If all your files have same properties can you join without changing quality. Like video frame size, fps, video and audio codecs.

And you wont find one tool that works best for all your files because both m2ts and mp4 can contain different codecs, several audio/video tracks that may cause problems.

For mp4 can you use mp4box or a gui for it like mymp4boxgui.

For m2ts can you try tsmuxer.

Or join with ffmpeg or a gui for it like video to video converter.

Or use a commercial editors like videoredo h264 suite, solveigmm video splitter.

No software will keep any history.

No adding audio tracks shouldn't be a problem.

It sounded like you wanted to join multiple files into one larger file - that can be problematic - audio sync being one of them.

Something like tsmuxer can add audio tracks.

Now you might run into problems if you are say using a track from a slightly different version of the film. Like using a special edition or extended cut. If the lengths aren't the same you'll run into problems. But if its from the same edition just tack it on.

I somehow meant, for example if we take a blu-ray movie, is that the main movie will be probably recorded in different quality and audio. And this movie will have other tracks like like intervue with the director and actors, or trailers... this tracks will probably be in different video/audio, if I join them with the main movie, that was what I was asking, but I guess that will run into problems, because I just tried doing a mkv file from a movie and that gave me error messages, yet the file finished mixing. I will have to go through it to see what happened.

@nicoliani - you can have multiple audio tracks in a mkv file.

However I've never really done that so I can't offer suggestions on that off the top of my head. But yes you can make a mkv with a main audio track and a director commentary track if you would like.

Yes, off course. Although I just found out with mkv that you can't put more video tracks and have it as one. It will merge, but if you play it in VLC you have to pick which video track to play, and that won't work, you will need to have video track one play to be able to play video track two...

The tracks must be the same if you want to join to a single mp4 or mkv.

And lots of extra material is in lower quality/lower frame size and lower audio quality. Then must you reconvert all to same. Or make a new blu-ray/avchd with a playlist.

That would be the best. How do I do a playlist in tsMuxeR?

You can't. You need another blu-ray authoring software. Maybe multiavchd. But I have never tried any reauthoring in it.

    I will try that one.
Question apart, is there possible to just create a playlist that would be recognized by any blu-ray player and video software that supports play listing. Just to playlist index file that you can add burn into the blu-ray disk.
