And a generic tablet with an arm processor (my initial testing platform).

Ok here is the detail for those who want an mp4 file with h264 that will work on an xbox 360, a ps3 and a wdtv (my wdtv test model is a gen 1 - the full size not the mini).

This was profile 4 using ripbot264 without any tweaks - the base settings.

I can't remember if I used cq 20 or 22. I think it was cq 20. It was a 5 min clip muxed out of a bluray rip using tsmuxer. Then I used ripbot (it was either version 1.16 or 1.17 I can't remember) to convert to a mkv to test on my generic android tablet which worked great.

I remuxed to mp4 with avidemux and tested it on an older nonslim xbox 360 and it played perfectly (played back on a micro sd card using a usb micro sd card reader plugged into one of the front usb ports on the xbox 360). It played back perfectly.

I then tried it on my ps3 - its a fat 40gb model. I used the front usb port with the same micro sd card usb reader. Again flawless playback.

Finally I tried the exact same clip on the same usb reader on my wdtv gen 1 model (again full size not the mini) and it also played perfectly on the wdtv.

Please note this was done with aac stereo audio no surround sound. I don't see why I won't be able to do ac3 5.1 just fine. The only hiccup could be trying to do anything higher than 448kbps on the xbox 360. Though I don't see why it shouldn't be able to handle 640kpbs dolby from a bluray rip. Naturally that should be quite ok on a ps3 and a wdtv.

The reason for me posting this in off topic instead of the main forum is because its not really new or newsworthy. This is more of a repository for future members to have a reference point.

Also please note for anyone not familiar with an xbox 360 or ps3 you will need to encode the video into a mp4 file as they do not recognize mkv video (at least not a non-hacked model). Also note if you intend to do this on a sd card be mindful of the fat 32 4gb limit. You could always burn to a dual layer dvd of course.

If anyone thinks this might be more useful in the main forum please let me know and I'll ask a moderator to move it to the video conversion forum.
