Hi I have a question on container formats. I have video files, some with container mp4, some with .flv. Both have video/audio H264/ACC (Dolby). In order to put these into an avi container, is it necessary to completely encode? My DVD player doesn't play these files but it can handle .avis. Obliged for any help here

Standard divx/xvid compatible dvd players do not support h264 video. You would have to re-encode at least the video . If the audio was AC3 (not ACC?), you should be able to copy the audio . If it was AAC (likely if it was FLV source), you would have to re-encode the audio as well
