Hello Forum, :D

I plan to set up two computers something like this:
http://home.iprimus.com.au/seamuswarren/Home%20Network.htm. :D

I have:
1 x 30GB 7200 RPM HDD;
1 X 10GB 5400 RPM HDD; and
1 X 6.4GB 5400 RPM HDD in the two computers and I am running Windows 2000.

I will be downloading files in sections of 30 - 50MB in size but totalling about 160MB each. I am hoping to convert these to VCD to put in the DVD player so I can watch them on TV.

I want to get two large hard disks exactly the same size and use one of these drives as a back up for the other. I am thinking of somewhere around the 80GB size because my version of Partition magic doesn't support drives above 80GB in size. :D I think I'll go for a couple of 80GB drives at 5400 RPMs instead of 7200 RPMs to save a few dollars.

I am hoping to get some advice. Am I heading along the right path do you think? I plan to do the CD burning on the older Pentium2 system. Because the CD recording process seems to drain a computer system it seems logical to get the P2 to do the work in the background while I use the Athlon and the main system. Where should I put the two 80GB drives? One in each system and use the Pentium 2 as the backup system? What of the three remaining hard drives? Am I using the right operating system for this "data managment"? Maybe I should get to know Linux because I may occasionally host a server. I hear that the conversion process can take quite a while so I suppose this task ought to be completed on the faster of the two systems?

Sorry about all the questions. Maybe someone could point me to a "good housekeeping" or "information/data management" site that could tell me how to manage large amounts of data making use of two PCs on a small home network. :D

Thank you.
