    How to save it right way up?

    Open the movie with QuickTime Player
    Choose Show Movie Properties from the Window menu
    Click on the video track, then click on the Visual Settings tab
    Clip the button to rotate your video.
    Save your movie. No reconverting required.


    Or with free software:
    Mpeg streamclip, http://gopro.com/support/articles/rotate-stream-clip (if you use the save as a mov you don't need to reconvert...but I don't know if it works with rotating)
    Avidemux,under filters.
    Freemake video converter, add video and double click on it, click on the rotate icon.

    But you must then reconvert to a new format.
