Hopefully I explain this correctly. I have been trying for the past few days to RIP dvds to my iPad and I have tried several methods, but all take forever. I first started out using AVS and it took forever. Next, I tried Handbrake, because some of my DVDs stated there was copyright material and I would need to decode/decrypt first. I then downloaded DVD Decrypter and that process took forever. Can someone suggest an easier way for me to RIP my dvds, so I can put them on my iPad? Thanks in advance for your help.

Please define "forever".
Also, tell us the details about the computer you're using. Third, make sure you don't run any overbloated antivirus while you're NOT surfing on the Internet.
Decrypting and copying a DVD to an HDD is relatively-fast. Encoding to an MP4 file with a H.264 codec is less fast or frankly slow, depending on how powerful your machine is. -
"Forever"=apprx. 2hrs, just to decrypt, then another 2+hrs to finalize the RIP process onto my HDD. I am using an HP desktop, Win7 64bit, 8gb non-shared memory, 4 gb video(forgot name of card). Finally, I shut down all of my background programs as possible. There is a good chance that I am not even doing what I need to do. I am not messed with this in years, so my knowledge is very rusty. I am even more ignorant, when it comes to dealing with the iPad function. I hear/read from other about Ripping movies to your iPad and how easy it is, but for some reason I run into a road block. Bottom line, I only want to RIP my DVDs and put them on my iPad for when I travel. I am open to any and all suggestions. BTW, the first software I bought was AVS4You and then I started running into the copyright/protected error message. Then I downloaded "Handbrake", and then "DVD Decrypter". Hope this helps explain a little more.

DVDDecrypter has not been updated for many years and is completely ineffective for many types of newer protections found on dvds. But on those dvds that it still works, it shouldn't take long at all to rip to the hard drive. Less than 20 minutes.
You should probably download the free trial for DVDFab. While you have the trial, you can rip with the DVD Copy section. After the trial period ends, there is still a free section, called DVD Fab HD Decrypter which will continue to function as a decryption/ripping program. If you do use the DVD Copy section, make sure not to compress the movie.
What type of dvd drive do you have? You might find a firmware for it that removes riplock (intentional slowdown of ripping speed). Or you might be able to patch the latest firmware for your drive with MCSE: http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/ But try ripping with DVDFab first and see if you are still having problems with ripping speed. -
Thanks Kerry56, I will try those when I get home from work today. As for the DVD drive, I could not tell you what it is. It was the one that came in the machine, but I will definately search for updated drivers. Good idea. I have read that FormatFactory and Catalyst are a couple to try. Any experience with these? Thanks.
