Hi guys . The Sony Video Communicator uses S-Video .Our TV has only HDMI and VGA connection ports . I have troubles connection these devices for quite a bit of time trying different adapters and cables . Finally I purchased a transformer box that converts S-Video to HDMI .So I have picture now. No sound . I have attached the connection schemes of both devices . I tried connecting the single Audio out on the Sony to the red and white component Audio on the TV . But this is not working because the video component is not connected.

Please help me figure out how to make the sound working

Please post the model number of your television. edit I see you posed what looks like the manual. Please post the model number of the s-video to hdmi converter though. Does the converter have an audio input?

For the cost of all these various converters, you could just go to a re-sale store or pawn shop and pick up an older (possibly nice, large) TV that has S-Video inputs!

the hdmi and audio port are on separate inputs to the tv so you can probably find the audio without the video by switching the tv input source. either convert svideo out to composite with a cheap $5 cable and plug both audio and video into the same numbered inputs or buy a hdmi converter that also has inputs for the audio. like - http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011406&p_id=...seq=1&format=2

is it really worth the effort though? that thing is old and very low quality. it has what a 320x240 video feed?

It looks like one of the analog audio inputs are linked to the HDMI 1 and VGA inputs. I would try connecting the output of your device to the 3.5 mm audio input connector and see what happens.

This is the axact converter that I have already installed ! Is working great . Video is working no question on that .

I need to connect the audio only !

The Sony Video Communicator System PCS1 is very expensive to replace and no need . I working fine for us . We use it for international video conference calls . The old TV was 50" LG and had S-Video and separate audio connection . But lower resolution and not so good for view exel sheets . So we upgraded to a high resolution 60" TV but no S-Video .

I underestimated this issue and now struggling for few weeks to get the audio working . Any help is greatly appreciated .

Did you verify that the audio output of your sony device is working? Try plugging the audio into another tv.

    Very strange .

On the Sony box is clear . I have one female RCA connection-Audio Outlet .

So I use a RCA cable with 1 male RCA on the Sony box side and 2 male RCA ( Red and White) on the other side to connect to the TV.

I can not connect the 2 white and red male RCA connectors to the Component audio because it works only if the component video is connected too..

So my question is . Where on the TV i plug the other side of the cable - with the two male RCA connectors (Red and White) ?

I have circled with red what is left on the TV to try

Sounds like it wasn't such a good "upgrade" then.

Why don't you just plug the audio into a receiver/speaker set, if the video via HDMI has been fine?

You mean to plug desktop speakers directly to the Audio output on the Sony box ? I was thinking of that ,but I need to get adapter or find speakers that use RCA connector . The Audio output on the Sony box is a single female RCA connector

If the audio is working it would be a good upgrade.Video conference is just one of the ways we use this TV .
Now everybody in the room can read the small text on the Exel sheets during presentations due to the increased size and better resolution of the TV

Actually, no, I meant a totally separate RECEIVER (with speakers attached to IT).

However, noting loster's suggestion I did a little further checking and I think what you need to do is this:
    1. Get a Y-cable that has 1 RCA male (plug) on one end and 2 RCA female (jacks) on the other end.
    2. Get a Y-adapter cable that has 2 RCA male (plugs) on one end and a stereo 1/8" miniphono male plug (the kind you use with many earbud headphones) on the other end.
    3. Connect the 2 RCA males to the 2 RCA females so you have a cable that looks like this:
    Code:
     -]------<=>------[-
This gives you a mono to dual-mono connector that goes from RCA on the one end (Sony source) and 1/8" miniphono on the other end (Sharp TV). (the "=" sign is where the 2 cables connect)

Make sure that the HDMI path from the Sony box goes into the HDMI #1 port only. That way, you can use the external audio with it.

Try that first, as it's cheap to get those 2 cables (you may already have one or both of them lying around).

If THAT doesn't work, then think about an external receiver (aka Audio AMP).

the audio from the sony is supposed to be connected into the hdmi converter box. it has inputs for it, and then the audio is sent with the video over the hdmi cable to the tv. if it isn't working you need to test the audio output from the sony to see if it's working at all.

Wow, good call aedipuss! Didn't even notice that part. Yup, that's how it SHOULD work. (using Y-cable like what I mentioned above, but with male plugs on all ends - mono->dualmono).
