Hi - please can you help me on the following ....
I have an avi (DivX) file which I uncompressed and would like to convert to VCD format. I started the conversion off but it's gonna take ages to do, after 3 hours it had done 2700 frames out if 145,000 frames.
So, why does it take so long to convert ???

As for the time taken, this is down to the power of your machine, looking at the time you give its sounds like you have a calculator not a pc
Sorry, just kidding.. Just use the original Divx with TMPGEnc without any filters and it should convert in half the time you said for the whole movie. -
I uncompressed the whole movie because the audio was compressed and wouldn't convert to VCD format otherwise.
As for my machine being a Calculator - lol. It's actually a 700Mhz AMD Athlon -
In that case, just extract the audio. And use the WAV for the audio, but the avi for the video. I do that everytime. On my PC it encodes pretty much "realtime" *note if you change alot from the source, it takes longer.
I have AMD XP 1900
512 DDR
So your PC will take quite a bit longer, but shouldn't be more than 5-6 hours. -

Is it this AC3 your on about ? I have not come across any AVI that cannot be converted "as is" But the codec's must all be installed.
Right click the AVI and select properties, what does it say ? or load into Vdub and select File > File information
What's it saying you don't have -
Thanks for your help :)
All I remember it saying when I first tried to convert it was "Unsupported Audio, must be uncompressed" or something similar.
Where can I download the codecs that I need then ??
I was using a different app to TMPGEnc but will use that from now on :)
I've also been reading the 'How to.....' guides else where on this site, seems like this VCD thing is a little more complicated than I first expected.
Might try and use some Menu's etc etc later 8) -
Well If you visit the help section here "HOW TO" it lists locations for codec's it also gives info on the AC3.
Or search using grokster for "codec" it has them all.
It very much sounds like you have an audeo codec missing. Probably need Nimo Codec Pack -
BTW >>> letmeinforgodsake
Have you ever thought about making the background in your Avatar transparent.
Also - I know you were joking about my machine being slow etc but it's faster at decoding / converting movies than my 1.2Ghz Laptop.
Thanks for your help - I followed the All In One Guide for converting Avi(DivX) to VCD under the convert section of the 'How To' menu -
