here's a new "does this tweak exist" request, per subject title.
i want the ability to add new items to the context menu in explorer (where you right-click shortcut icons on the desktop, like the send to for instance) and a drop-down of selections of shortcuts to folders would appear, so i can select which one to open. see "open folder" example below. obviously, there would have to be a way to add the new items to the context menu. this would have to work under windows xp.
Code:. . format.. send to open folder D:\folder 1 D:\folder 2 D:\folder 3 cut paste create shortcut . .

there is a possible alternate solution here:

@ http://www.nirsoft.net , you can get two applications for REMOVING
items from the Explorer's context-menus:
ShellMenuView and ShellExView -
i found some delphi code to do this, but is too confusing for me to get working. but i think i like the alternate solution so far.

While I think I'd prefer using a decent file manager, it did occur to me there's a way to do something similar to what you want. Create a folder somewhere for storing the shortcuts to all the locations you access regularly. Create all the shortcuts and move them to that folder. You could simply keep the folder on your desktop, or if you wanted to be really creative you could put it somewhere else and create a shortcut to it and put that on your desktop instead
.
Then to navigate to subfolder B of folder A on your external drive, a double click on the shortcuts folder on your desktop to open it followed by a double click on the appropriate shortcut will take you there.
Or using the QuickLaunch, mini start menu idea, there's no reason why you couldn't put the folder of shortcuts in QuickLaunch. One Click to open the QuickLaunch menu, move the cursor to the folder and then one click on the shortcut, saves you two mouse clicks and the trouble of having to switch back to the desktop first.
I'm pretty sure xplorer2 has an option to set it to open folders via shortcuts in place of Windows Explorer. I've not used it that way myself for a long time but I think when doing so it just opens in single pane mode. Well I'm pretty sure it used to, in which case there's probably not much benefit to using xplorer2 instead of Windows Explorer for shortcuts so I probably should just stop typing now..... -
Thanks for the compliment.
BTW it looks like Baldrick is a spammer too:

Seriously though, there are several programs which think "the more items in the context-menus of Windows Explorer, the better". Obviously the ones who design such *annoywares* are WRONG.

this method of using quick launch was the BEST alternative, it was great while it lasted, had fun using it all day yesterday, well, all until this evening when i started xp, it re-arranged the apps and folder positions that i manually setup in a certain order were all changed. i just gotten used to the new routine. and now the folders are on the taskbar (tiny icons near the >>) so far i am not able to get it back to the way it was yesterday. another m$ screw job. oh well, now i'm off to search other ideas to consider.
btw, i got rid of chrome, what a pain it was causing me, stealing all my hdd space and randomly grinding my hdd to no avail. i reinstall opera and no more grinding eating up my hdd space. what sold me chrome was the lightening speed it would load a webpage. but after a few weeks, that disappeared and it was slower than opera not to mention turning into bloat-ware. i say, good ridden! -
Personally I don't like altering my system for the sake of it.
The best solution I found is this task bar application launcher:
http://apathysoftworks.com/software/quickcliq
It provides me an alternative right-click context menu. I can set up a list of shortcuts to launch a series of windows (apps, browser windows, folders) and then hide these windows by using CTRL+Space. They can be recalled any time by clicking the task bar QuickCliq icon. I find it a real boon. It saves the profile for the next start up.
It's the solution I prefer, it may not be what you're looking for, but I find it a lot safer than Window hacks.
EDIT: forgot to mention, it's free and portable, so another bonus is if you have all your apps/folders on a USB stick everything is available and just a click away on any computer you choose to work on. It's a fantastic prog.Last edited by transporterfan; 23rd Jan 2013 at 21:23.

That shouldn't happen. I've been using the same QuickLaunch start menu since I setup this PC. Aside from any additions/subtraction I've made to it's contents in the mean time. Hopefully it was just a "glitch' and won't happen again.
Chances are failing to lock the taskbar simply caused Windows to move the QuickLaunch slider over on reboot to reveal as many icons as it could. I possibly should have mentioned that, and would have done so had I been aware it could happen, but as I've always locked the taskbar myself it never occured to me not doing so could make a difference. Sorry.
Try sliding the border (the >>] thingy) back towards the start button. Doing so may even restore the folder/icons to their original order. Once you've slid it over, right click on a blank area of the taskbar and select "lock the taskbar". The slider moves a little when you lock it (typical Microsoft) so it might take a few locks/unlocks while moving it a bit to keep the icons next to the start button at the number you require. Locking the taskbar will stop it from ever moving again. If need be, re-arrange the shorcuts/folders once more. You can also include any icons which remain on the task bar when you move them around, but you have to play the "shuffle the icon" game. For instance if you drag a shortcut from the pop-up menu and drop it next to the start button, the icon next to the pop-up menu will move up into the menu, so if you want an icon on the taskbar in the popup menu instead.... that's how to do it. When you've finished, reboot and hopefully it'll reboot the way it was when it shut down. It always does for me.
I wouldn't give up on the idea just yet, it should work perfectly. There's four PCs in this house and I've set up mini QuickLaunch start menus for each and they all work fine.Last edited by hello_hello; 25th Jan 2013 at 00:46.
