  1. Hello there :
I'm trying to make an E-Learning course. So i recorded my desktop (1366x768) using Kazam in Ubuntu at 15 fps. It is saved in a mp4 file. I imported that file in Sony Vegas Pro 12 and it displayed a message, it asked me if I wanted to match the video settings with the project settings or something like that, and I clicked "yes".

When I was done editing I clicked "render" using the profile 6 MBps HD 720-30p wmv Video. Here's the output

    http://postimage.org/image/5z9dgzvtx/full/

    The original quality.

    http://postimage.org/image/lk0c2agrn/full/

As you can see the output video looks awful. Is this a problem with the source video itself? Am I choosing the wrong profile? If so, What profile should I choose?

Thanks in advance for your answer(s)

  2. sometimes it will guess incorrectly about matching the settings

what were the video specs? use mediainfo (view=>text), copy & paste the info back here

what were the project settings that it "guessed?" file=>project properties

what were the exact render settings?

For some types of setups you might need to apply a Studio RGB to computer RGB filter before exporting, or vice versa (this wil help fix the levels issue, where black doesn't look black)

  4. Your recording was 15fps, but your render settings were 30fps. By default, vegas will add those extra frames by using a blended frame of the previous and next frame (looks like "ghosting" or double image). You can change this by right clicking the clip and changing resample to "off" instead of "smart resample) . This will make duplicates instead of blends . Or better yet just export a 15fps file instead of 30fps (change that in the render settings)

The levels issue should be "fixed" by using studioRGB to ComputerRGB filter before rendering (test this you by rendering a short loop region)

I don't know why you're getting the "combing" or "interlaced" look as everything is progressive (file properties, project settings, export settings). You might try exporting a different format like h.264/aac/mp4
    Quote Quote
  5. Here's what I did:
Changed the Render Profile frame rate to 15fps
    Set the resample to "off"
Applied Sony Levels effect - Preset studioRGB to ComputerRGB

    It looks like this:

    http://postimage.org/image/dkull3mub/full/

I'm still getting that interlaced look, OOOHH GOOD!!!
    Quote Quote
  6. I'm not sure why... that shouldn't be happening...

Did you try another export format (other than wmv)? maybe something buggy with wmv exports

It shouldn't have any effect, but you can try project properties, deinterlace method=>interpolate , or maybe set it to "none". But in theory this shouldn't do anything on a progressive file
    Quote Quote
  7. I tried rendering to various formats. Same result!. It's odd ... Same thing happens in KDenLive.
    Quote Quote
  8. Can you upload a sample of the original file? There might be a problem with the recording not reflected by the mediainfo information
    Quote Quote
  9. Sure, but it's gonna take a while due to my internet connection
    Quote Quote
  10. You don't need to upload the entire thing, just cut a sample e.g. using avidemux . video=>copy , audio=>copy, format=> mp4. Navigate to a section and cut on the nearest keyframe (push the "<<" or ">>" button in the gui), mark in, mark out that selection, ctrl+s to save

I find it improbable that both vegas and kdenlive would treat the file in exactly the same way - it doesn't make sense. This suggests that something might be amiss with original recording

  11. Sorry, I messed up XD, how can I split a portion of the video without re-encoding? I did it with YAMB and it changed several things

yamb (mp4box) shouldn't change anything. Exactly what did it change?

Or you can try avidemux suggested above^

This file use X264 with Fourcc AVC1. Try change to H264.

  14. There is nothing "wrong" with it. I don't know why it's happening

In vegas , right click the clip in the clip bin, what does it say about the file properties

    Easy way to correct this.

Open your file in Virtualdub using directshow filter, select direct stream copy for audio and video and save avi file.

The new file work perfect in Vegas in any resolution.

    1 - Download Virtualdub
    2 - Download a Directshow filter here:
    http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/DShowInputDriver-0.93.zip
3 - Extract to Virtualdub\Plugins32 - (If no exist this folder, make it.)
4 - Look screenshots below and get your work file:

  19. I'm very confused as to why you are getting those results...

Does the preview within vegas look ok ? (ie. before exporting out)

    Try what Cauptain suggested

  21. Yes, it does look good. Now I'm having problems with the directshow filter LOL!, Virtualdub won't open the mp4!
    Quote Quote
  22. Oh, mine looks good...I'll check agian
    Quote Quote
  23. Maybe I'll just try recording it again, the only problem is that Kazam only supports mp4 and webm formats, and Vegas doesn't support webm files
    Quote Quote
  24. Fullscreen preview looks awful; same as rendered video D:

  25. So both of you have the decoding issue? I currently don't have vegas installed on any of my computers so I can't test it (and I didn't upgrade to 12 as I moved completely to Adobe)

You can try other recording software, maybe camstudio (on windows), it supports all VFW codecs/formats you have installed on your system

  26. Hi; unfortunately virtualdub crashes when I try to open the mp4; It says it's a problem with quick time, can't open the files with DS filter either. Any one knows how to read assembly language?
