Let us presume that one can view only the first part of a DVD file set (i.e. the first X Mb of a DVD's data).
When looking at the first files in the VIDEO_TS folder, specifically the VIDEO_TS.IFO file (I use IFOEdit);
I can tell how many titles there are - which can suggest(!) if the DVD contains any extras, etc.
But often, the 'extras' are blank.
Is there anything in IFOEdit that can tell me the details of the DVD's VOBs (the duration, size or some other details of each Title) to determine if the extras exist - from just the main IFO file?
Perhaps there's hex/dec data that I just need to find out how to interpret?
Or, is there some other tool that would do this?
Thanks.

With IFOedit, you would have to look at the PGC navigation info for each of the program VTS_0x_0.IFO files to get the duration. The VIDEO_TS.IFO is only for the main menu i.e. there wouldn't be any details for the different programs on the disc. Mediainfo lite can give you all the info you want in a clearer way. Also, keep in mind many discs contain dummy data to prevent copying.
I should add, if you can load the DVD in DVDshrink you will see everything.
An other alternative is to view the VIDEO_TS.VOB or VTS_0x_0.VOB file with a media player (you might have to change the extension to MPG); those files have the menu video.Last edited by nic2k4; 20th Jan 2013 at 10:55.

That's discouraging...
As I noted, I am trying (hoping!) to see the DVD time specs from the first few files - I'd assumed the main IFO would have something hidden deep inside it. Maybe not...
The VIDEO_TS.IFO does contain the Number of Titles, how many chapters each, & the starting sector.
The starting sector of the next title suggests the length of the 'current' one, but I was hoping there might be a summary of the whole, in this file. -
Look for this file VTS_01_0.IFO and open it in MediaInfo - you should get something like this - the playing time is shown as 2h 3mm
