I'm trying to convert an .asf to either MPG or AVI.

Virtual Dub 1.3 loads it, but when I try a conversion (or do a preview) all I get is the sound.

TMPGenc crashes after converting a few seconds. If I try to set a frame range or any other processing of the .asf it crashes.

Graph Editor does the job, but the audio goes way out of sync within a minute or so.

All other operations of these programs seem to be working fine with few (if any) crashes, so I don't think it's my machine.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

well the down and dirty solution is to drag and drop it into Nero. Nero will automatically convert any video file into mpg standard for burning a vcd. Now with that said, it is the down and dirty solution. The alternantive is to convert the audio to pcm first with some type of audio convertor (the name evades me). then convert the video and the extracted audio into whatever format your needing into tmpgencm (separate video and audio sources). Like i said, the Nero solution is easier

Thanks for the tips, guys. I tried out your suggestions and here's what happened:

    - ASF tools converted the file but what I got was a file that had sound but a single frame of a garbled screen for the entire video.

    - Nero did convert the file, and the first 10 or 15 minutes of the resulting MPG looked good, but the video eventually began stuttering a lot and by the half hour mark the audio was about 2 seconds out of sync.

Is this normal? Is everyone else out there having an easy time using converting these things?

Is there something I can do to make Virtual Dub 1.3 convert it properly? Are the newer ASF files different somehow? They're kicking my ass!
