  1. Hi guys,

I have two ripped .mkv files

I have a 1080p file with audio in Russian.

I have a 720p file with audio in English.

Both movies are identical at around 1 hour 40 minutes (yet the 1080p one is 2 seconds shorter than the 720p one)

I'd like to encode the 1080p file with the audio track from the 720p file.

With this I mean that I would like a pixel copy of the video of the 1080p file, joined to the audio of the 720p file.

    How can I do this?

    thanks guys and gals.

PS: I have handbrake and mkvavi2mp4 installed in this machine for starters.

Use mkvextractgui2 to extract the audio, add the new audio to the mkv with mkvmergegui.

The 2 seconds difference will be enough that you will very likely have major sync issues unless you are very very lucky and the extra 2 seconds are at the very end of the film.

I think you just set a record around here for the longest time between getting an account and making your first post. I really do not understand why people will sign up for accounts and then many years later they'll finally get around to making a first post.

  4. Thanks, I remember posting on here before though. But 9 years ago is a long time indeed.

If it's not too much bother how do I use mmg.exe?

I extracted the audio out of the 720p file. It now is a file with extension .ac3.

How do I use mmg.exe to insert (preferably overwrite) the audio already present in the 1080p file using mmg.exe?

Advanced question: If the 2 seconds difference in time (compared to the total video length of 1 hour 40 minutes) causes synching issues, how would I be able to correct it?

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

EDIT: I just input both files and clicked start muxing.

It took 4 minutes and finished without errors. But horrible sync issues at the end like jman98 said. Near the end audio is trailing the video by more than 2 seconds?? Of well forget it.

  5. you don't need mkvextract

you can do it all with mkvtoolnix, just add your video, add your 2nd video, uncheckmark the streams you don't want (e.g uncheckmark 720p video, russian audio). Press start muxing

this doesn't overwrite any files, it creates a new file with your specified streams

If the 2sec difference is a linear , constant sync issue. e.g. 2secs all the way through. You enter a muxing delay e.g. +2sec or -2sec (or whatever the correct value is)

If the 2sec difference is progressively worsening, then you can either stretch/shrink the audio to fit in an audio editor, or attempt to adjust the video fps .

If there are other issues (the movie actually isn't exactly the same) , you might have to manually sync up sections .

I suspect a lot of us do not understand why you do not understand why your second paragraph is of little or no interest whatsoever except to yourself and, therefore, of no purpose except to start a flame war.

Thanks. MKVToolnix is actually very simple to use. Like you said I inserted all the relevant files (I extracted the audio out of the 720 which was unnecessary like you said) and clicked start muxing. Took only 4 minutes but yeah, initially the audio is perfect and later gets progressively worse.

It is the same movie, the 1080p version is in russian the 720p I have is in English I was trying to transpose the english into the better quality version.

I am giving this up for a simple reason, when comparing the quality of the post muxed version to the 720p version I noticed that the original 720p version is actually of higher quality than the original 1080p version. That is weird as the 1080p file codec lists the width at 1920 and the 720p is listed as 1280. Also the video bandwidth hovers around 12mbps on the 1080p and hovers around 7mbps for the 720p.

So eventhough the numbers say the 1080p should be higher quality, when comparing frames the 720p edges it out. It's almost imperceptible but it definitely has more information. I don't understand how that could be but I'm sticking to the 720p version (which coincidentally is in the language I prefer anyway.)

Edit: I'm thinking the 1080p is just an upscaled version of the 720p which resulted in loss of data but increased bandwidth/filesize?
