    Hi,

I'm using KMPlayer and have a problem with some files.

I have downloaded several MP4 files from the same source, yet some of them (~10%?) don't play.

I tried also on VLC and still nada.

On KMP I get the following error message:

Does it work with VLC? If not then it's probably corrupt.

    Nope. Doesn't work with VLC.

Any tool to check the "health" of a video file?

    Thanks..

Try open it with mediainfo and see if it can identify the video and audio codecs.

    Yeh, won't open.

Strange. It's from an official website where several people need to use those files.

    Thanks!

A great tool (freeware ) to check MP4 type files is Atomic Parsley. While it is mainly used for Metadata it can also be used for checking structure, extracting cover image etc. Just place the MP4 and the Atomic Parsley file in a folder and open a command window in that folder and type:

    AtomicParsley /path/your.mp4-T

and you'll get a simliar image like below for a good file:

Name:	ScreenHunter_463 Jan. 18 23.32.jpg
Views:	7048
Size:	130.7 KB
ID:	15815

and the image similar to below for a bad file. Notice the ~ and the footnote indicating bad atom unit.

Name:	ScreenHunter_463 Jan. 18 23.34.jpg
Views:	7574
Size:	222.1 KB
ID:	15816

If it fails with an error msg then, as Baldrick already said,..... it's broken for sure
