Hi, I'm sorry if this has been answered before.

I have sent a set of (US) bluray disks as a present to Israel, a mistake, as they're in a different region, and use PAL and not NTSC .

Anyway, is there a way to play these on a PC running Win7?

    Thanks, David L.

You might have to run anydvdhd if your blu-ray reader is region locked to one region. Or else will both PAL and NTSC work fine on a computer.

NTSC and PAL don't technically exist in BluRays to be pedantic. Only bonus/special features type stuff might be in 720x480 or 720x576 but someone in Israel should have a player and TV capable of displaying 720x480 video anyway. We do know what you mean by talking about NTSC and PAL in conjunction with BluRay, but if I don't point out that technically speaking they aren't part of the spec, someone else will.

Some commercial BluRays sold in region A (USA and others) do not have region coding. Such discs will play fine for your friend. Or if the disc is coded for regions A and B but not C, it will also play fine.

Yes, there is a way for your friend to play the discs no matter what. AnyDVD HD Decrypter intercepts region coding and can be used in conjunction with BluRay playing software to play the discs even if a region code would normally stop them. Sadly, AnyDVD is not free. Just in case someone wants to recommend DVDFab Passkey and explain how to use it, it appears to no longer be free so there's no advantage to using it over AnyDVD HD Decrypter.

There is a "lite" version that should still be able to crack most region-coding.
Double check this list, it me be region free after all:

  7. Passkey Lite is basically worthless for Blu-ray:

Passkey Lite is a free and a simple two-in-one version of Passkey for DVD and Passkey for Blu-ray, and supports part of the functions they have.
It can still decrypt protected DVD and Blu-ray, but not for all of them. For example, it can't remove AACS V12+, BDAV, and AVCREC for Blu-ray, so you are not allowed to watch movies with those protections.

OK, just got a response from Israel, the passkey light did not make it happen.

    Any other ideas?

poisondeathray, Baldrick and I all told you the same answer that will work. I'm done here as it's clear you're not paying attention to what you're being told.

By the way, DVDFab has more or less shifted to a model where their free versions are mostly worthless and you have to pay to get anything useful. So it was completely predictable (see MOVIEGEEK"s post) that Passkey Lite would not work.

OK, the total value of the bluray set was <$20, and the shipping about the same, I looked at the price of the for pay solutions, it's much higher.

So.... are there either free, or low cost tools that's do the job?

Or, do I just write off the loss, and see to replace the disks with a version that'll work in Israel?

You can use anydvdhd for free for 21 days at least.

Or else is your option to use the free dvdfab decrypter to rip the ENTIRE dvd to your blu-ray and then play...but it wont work will all blu-rays.

Or try rip it to a mkv with MakeMKV. It's free while in beta mode.
