I don't think I've ever seen a company that states what exact drive is in their unit.

They usually don't, but someone that has already bought the drive could have this information.

What do you think the odds are that someone just happens to see this discussion, bought one of these....and has taken it apart(voiding the warranty)?

You don't need to take the drive apart to obtain this information. There is software that can do this for you. Anyway, I might buy one even if I don't get a reply here.

The one I use is CrystalDiskInfo. It is available as a portable app so you don't even have to install it.
