hi, just curious if anyone knows if there will be a version of handbrake that will be supporting Intel Quicksync, or any form of hardware based encoding in the near future.
i recall seeing a review from a guy using some beta version that had support for hardware acceleration but i cant find it.
cheers

You find latest beta versions here: https://build.handbrake.fr/view/Nightlies/job/Windows/
But I haven't read anything about quicksync support. -
i wish i could locate that review i saw, even the guy who did it said the version he was testing was a special beta copy given to him to test against 3 other software tools that supported hardware conversions (Cyberlink Media Espresso & Arcsoft MediaConverter were 2 of them)
i do recall that after all the testing, CPU based encoding with handbrake was still the best option for quality. -

thanks Baldrick, the information mentioned in that link is exactly the same that has been published by many experts, basically saying that there is no substitute for CPU based encoding, especially with h264.
outputting my 1080/50p m2ts files from my HD cams to 1080p mp4 in handbrake using my 3770 IB cpu i get about 60fps, and in almost every case, the output time for each file is roughly about the same time as the video is long, so basically its done in "real time" and the CPU runs at about 70% usage.
if i output to 720p i get about 90 to 100fps and output time is about half the actual video length. -
just curious how often these nightly builds change, i had no idea they work on this development so much.
i just installed the svn5165 nightly build and the GUI is different than the 0.9.8 i was using before, with some additional presets included.
EDIT: i am outputting a 50min m2ts file to mp4 with the svn5165 build, which i had done yesterday using the 0.9.8 version.
my cpu usage has jumped from 60% average up to 85% to 90% average, still getting about 60fps, but the output time is going to be 40 minutes as opposed to 50min on the 0.9.8 version, most likely because of the higher cpu usage.Last edited by glenpinn; 8th Jan 2013 at 04:50.
