    Hey Guys,

I have a Divx video file that is encoded with AC3 Audio, which I believe is some sort of Dolby Surround Sound format. I want to convert the video to MPG so I can burn it into VCD format to play in my DVD player.

I can convert the video using TMPGenc, but the audio is missing. I have tried using VirtualDub to rip the sound into WAV format, but it does not want to recognize the format either.

Even playing the video itself is a nuissance, I have to use media player called "PowerDivX NextGen". The sound skips if I play it in any other player.

Any suggestions? Ideas? Is there a codec I can install that would end all my problems? I tried looking around the net, but could find very little info on the format, nevermind a codec. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

  2. So your asking how to convert the sound from an avi with ac3. The are number of ways, but the method that i find easyest is:

The new Tmpgenc ver 2.52 and newer has improved Direct Show reader, so if you give this highest priority, at 2 or so. You need to have Direct Show ac3 filter installed. If you install Nimo codex pack and under Direct Show filters mark of the ac3 filter. Know you just have to load the avi source in Tmpgenc, but do not try any external audio decoders.

    Hey, Sac,

Use "HeadAC3e" to convert your AC3 streams (probably 48,000 sps) to a 44,100 sps .WAV stream (which, I believe, the VCD format requires). This software does the down conversion fairly quickly (relatively speaking) and can convert to other formats.

    Hey SLK001,

I have downloaded and installed the newest version of HeadAC3. Now when I go to open the source file, it only gives me the option to convert an actual .ac3 file. As it stands right now, the AC3 sound is encoded in the avi file. How do I rip the ac3 sound from the avi [divx] file?
