  1. I am trying to get files to convert to mp4 h.264 to use on my home network. I have a weak link in a Samsung smart tv ued8000 led smart tv that's really fussy with files.

I also have humax PVR and a boxee box. These generally play everything. I had been making files as avi as Samsung seemed to like them but had one the other day that the humax and boxee couldn't play. I want to go to mp4 really and have downloaded videos before in mo4 that work on everything, including the Samsung.

I am trying to get a good method that I can generally stick with for all files where possible.

    For example this doesn't work

    Speak of the devil.

I bought a Samsung TV after Christmas and have been playing with converting my DVD collection so I can play them off a connected hard drive.

Here are the settings I've used on 3 seasons of the Simpsons and they played just fine.

    Container: MP4
    Video Codec: H.264
    Frame rate: 29.97
    Bitrate (Kbps): 950
    Audio codec: AAC
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample rate: 44100 Hz
    Bitrate: 160 Kbps

  3. Thanks for that. Using what program to convert? And what options etc?

I think the Samsungs play a larger range of files from a direct USB connection versus wireless via DLNA or UPNP server.

I had some success last night using freemake Although it seems to crash during the conversion more often than not. Even on small test files. It worked on creating an avi and mp4 file both streamed to the TV but a MkV didn't.

That would work if more stable I think...

I don't have much time to mess around with custom settings and crap like that, so I use Freemake Video Converter.

I'm converting from DVD to MP4, using the setting I outlined above. It's a set it and forget it kind of thing, which works well.

I've never had it crash, knock on wood. The machine is very old, so it takes a long time to convert anything, but it seems to be working quite well.

I'll give the wireless version a test and see how it likes these MP4 files over it. I've played a number of AVI and MP4 files over it, but never these I've made in Freemake.

I'll try it tonight when I get home and see if they work.

  6. Some good news.

I have been reading more about this and stumbled across one post suggesting to go to the twonky media server settings via 192.168.1.123:9000 (where it's the IPaddressofnas:9000) and then check that under media renderers the tv is set as samsung tv instead of generic player.

I had done previously but all my devices were getting IP address allotted by router.

Because of that the tv was really fussy about being able to play mp4's, would not play Mkv files.

I have now changed the devices to fixed ip and saved the media renderer type in the twonky server settings. Hope it will save this time!!

Seems like a result though and handbrake and freemake files saved as mp4 (freemake or handbrake) or avi(freemake) work!

Hope someone searching for a simile problem stumbles across this and sees a fix. Took me bloody hours so far!!

Cool. Had never heard of twonky.

When I stream to my rokus I use Plex. Samsung TVs can install the Plex app to stream through it as well.
