Which "video converter with two VGA slots that are already used"? If you can't provide a link to the device, nobody can give you a meaningful answer.

The video adapter above only converts from HDMI to VGA. It won't work for converting from from VGA to HDMI.

They could be for a specific device that sends or receives analog video and audio from a connector that appears to be for HDMI but isn't. The other explanation for their function is that they might be used to connect two HDMI devices in an auditorium or home theater that has existing cabling for older PCs and older analog video equipment.

Using cheap equipment to convert VGA to an HDMI signal won't give you the quality you want. Even the Atlona VGA to HDMI converter you linked to could be a disappointment. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6793060&SRC...FYLd4AodTEcAGQ
You would need a VGA splitter and RCA stereo audio splitters to feed your monitor and the converter. Also, the Atlona converter would need something with a USB connection to power it.

Without an HDTV that has HDMI inputs you have to struggle to create a working setup that still might not give you the best result the capture device is capable of. Just wait until you have enough money to do things correctly. It isn't like you will miss the boat on this just by waiting a few months. Now I really am done giving advice to you.
