And is AHCI mandatory for SSD ?

Where in Win-7 do I find the control setting for AHCI ? (I'm still very much finding my way around this OS, which I only began using fairly recently. Of course, Microsoft's propensity for renaming and relocating a lot of UI things keeps this a challenge.)
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

  2. An SSD will work in IDE mode, but it's better to run it in AHCI mode. AHCI supports TRIM.

AHCI is a BIOS option, assuming the mobo is not too old. Supported by Vista and later Windows operating systems.
