I have a couple of TV series, bought last year. I want to rip them to hard drive and store but in both cases, there are many files on the disks, but only 4 episodes... so clearly lots of dupes. I tried doing it with Battlestar Galactica and ended up with every season all out of order, so am going to have to start over. Another, The Legend of the Seeker, on the first disk (and probably the others, has 99 files, all of which could be episodes (but again only 4 per disk). Obviously these are put there to confuse people like myself.
Is there any way around this annoyance, or shall I just stop being lazy, and get up to change disks as I always did in the past.
FYI Ive been using Handbrake which has served me well...any other suggestions, most welcome.

Have you tried rip with dvdfab decrypter? And then use handbrake to open the dvd folder.

Thanks, Baldrick, no, I had not, I'll give it a try. since posting yesterday I downloaded a trial of Mac DVDripper pro which is a partial (but incredibly slow) solution. you can choose what you want by viewing the actual disk (playing it) and selecting from there. There are hiccups though... I'll try your solution. I love handbrake but it does fall over on that particular issue
[edit] AHA!! Another tool I had not considered because I didnt take to it at all, several versions ago, is MakeMKV. And, guess what, it works *perfectly*. It sorts out the fake files, crap titles and leaves you with what you need and no more. Love it. As an addendum, I found that DVDFab was going to require paying for, before i could do what I wanted, so I chose not to proceed. Its not that I expect everything to be free, but since not working the last couple of years, I can't just buy things on the offchance that they will be exactly what I want. Thanks for the suggestion though, it was worth the download to see what it would do. Perhaps in the future.Last edited by kyteflyer; 5th Jan 2013 at 19:00.

Play the DVD with Apple's DVD Player. During the playback of a particular episode, pause it and you'll be able to see which title is actually being played. That's the one you rip.
