  1. What is the best package to rip an unencrypted iso file? And what packages can edit and put back together the resulting pieces?

    Thanks!

You don't have to rip anything that is unencrypted.

What kind of editing? DVD Shrink might work using the reauthoring mode. I think it can open isos directly also.

You just EXTRACT data from an ISO. To do this, you can use UltraISO, WinISO, ISOBuster, etc. Or use DaemonTools/WinCDEmu to mount the ISO and then just COPY the files to HDD.

(or DVDShrink method Baldrick just mentioned)

Once again, be careful how you use the word rip. It does NOT equal CONVERT (in its native sense). This messes up so many newbies...

Yep. Even 7zip can extract from ISO files.

  6. Clueless newbie here. Actually this is part of my project to retrieve a deleted title from an unfinalized dvd. I've got that part done now: I have all the titles as mpeg files (including the deleted one) and now I'm trying to put them back together. Windows Media Player is able to play the mpg files.
I have a copy of Pinnacle Studio 12, but this is not an easy package to work with and I'm not sure whether it can do what I want.
I've got the titles back in order using dvdstyler-2.3.5. However, I've run into a strange problem. I've got the "movie clips" lined up and the titles named but when I preview the result, there is no sound. Now when Windows Media Player (or Pinnacle Studio 12 for that matter) plays the files, there is sound. I've tried the different audio settings that dvdstyler offers (not that I know the difference among them), but none of them seems to provide sound to the preview. What would be wrong?

  7. The audio might be DTS, use Mediainfo to check the audio properties.

  8. Thanks for recommending mediainfo. It's a helpful package.
Anyway mediainfo says the audio in the "movie clips" is AC3. I've selected AC3 in every menu that I can find in dvdstyler, but still no sound. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  9. I would suggest you create an iso image in DVDStyler and either handle it with one of the above method togther with MediaInfo to what's actually there or simply use it with a player you know will handle a DVD properly.

If you use "Preview" with DVDStyler your systems default player is used and maybe that's the problem.

In DVDStyler if your audio source is AC3 with a 48 kHz sampling rate the default is merely to copy the audio and if you select AC3 a conversion is made - even if not needed.

  10. I finally got this to work in dvdstyler by redoing the project from the beginning, not changing any settings, and not saving the project until it was completed. (In my previous efforts I had adjusted the settings and also saved and resumed the project). Don't know what made the difference but this time it worked and the result has sound.
