I get "an error occurred while opening a codec" if I try to render to an avi using Lame mp3 encoder. This seems to be a common problem. Does anyone have a fix? Right now I am encoding to PCM and re-encode outside of Vegas.
I can't use Vegas' own MPEG Layer-3 codec either. It just says "no supported formats".

I have exactly the same problem.
Not a solution but a possible work around that works for me:
1. Render/save the video without audio
2. Render/save the audio without the video (Yes, Sony Vegas can output audio files too.)
3. Mux the video and audio files together
This way you don't have to re-encode anything. Still pretty annoying. -
Actually, Vegas recommends rendering video & audio separately anyways, so the audio won't get re-encoded in DVD Architect.
