using replay video capture i am successfully recording some video content i want

sometimes there is a pause in the streaming video and i record the pause

it is a nuisance, one i would like to edit out before converting the files to another format

i am happy with the resolution the clarity the quality and the 6000 bitrate ,

but it does produce large files, some times 2 or 3 gig,

i need suggestions for software that will edit these files
or split edit and perhaps rejoin, with out re-encoding

free would be my first choice

but will buy if that is only /best way

Are we talking about mpg with mpeg2 video?

Then you can try free editors like mpg2cut2 or avidemux. Set start and stop and delete. Save as a new mpg. Or use commercial mpeg editors like videoredo or mpegvcr if they are too complex or wont work.

I use VideoRedo Plus regularly on files around 14-16Gb and it handles them without and problem at all. I can clip out sections from a large video, or (as I use it for) extract short segments out of a much longer recording.

I haven't tried the free ones you'll be trying first, but if they don't meet your needs, VideoRedo probably will.

Videoredo and MPEGVCR would be my suggestion too. You get what you pay for so don't be surprised if the free editors don't work very well.

i just tired womble mpegvcr 7 times
it keeps randomly crashing at various stages

the last time i made it all the way to the save mode of my test file and then it crashed while doing the save

mpeg2 720*480 only 24 minutes before cuts, one 6min cut, 18min total length

i will try some of the other programs

Can you post the details from the mpg? Use mediainfo, open mpg, view->text.

it should be noted ... mpeg-vcr will some times crash before i can even open a file

dl video redo and it works great, but I will have to find something else as it cost too much and i don't need all those features just to edit/cut out a few 'hiccups stream pauses'

tried mpg2cut2 .. but having trouble doing what i want, cut a section out

You can read a guide how to use mpg2cut2, like http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides/dvdrip/242-dvd-to-youtube-free , just to see how to it works.

You can also try cut with free videodub. I think it should work with mpeg2 files.

thanks, but i read that guide
its all about cutting out a small clip for youtube

what i want is the exact opposite, cut out dead spots, commercials, stream pauses
and keep the main body 'export/save' file/tv/movie with out the pauses/commecials

  11. Mpg2Cut2 doesn't allow you to cut out parts. You have to mark all the pieces you want to keep then save the result. Mark-in ([), mark-out (]), Edit -> Add Clip, repeat to mark all the sections you want. Then File -> Save All Clips.

thanks for saving me more trouble
like this its worthless to me ..
like I said, i could not find away to do what i wanted

    i may try videodub
i have 14 days left on my videoredo trial

for the low $19 price i would have purchased mpeg-vcr, if it did not crash and functioned as adv, as it is i can not even get a test file edited
    it crashes at random

no ! ..what you out line will eventually produce a complete video minus the cuts
AFTER i rejoin all the pieces,

I don't want to create multiple clips and rejoin them,

i want to 'edit' out the cuts , and save the finished video file

much easier editing and correcting the time line line cuts,

test play the finished product before saving etc..

if its not right, remove or change a cut, then test again
    before doing the final save

No. It creates one MPG file.

    This part of the instructions

Then File -> Save All Clips.
Will save all the clips (the parts you have marked out with Add Clip) to one file

then in that case it works the same/similar as "scene mode" in videoredo

    i might try it again,

    i haven't tried free-video-dub Yet !

  18. Videoredo is better because it allows frame accurate cuts. It reencodes cut GOPs (all MPEG editors that allow frame accurate cuts must reencode cut GOPs) but the rest of the video is not reencoded. Mpg2cut2 only cuts on keyframes (and hence there's no need to reencode) -- but it's free and very light weight.
