I was revisiting this thread to refresh my memory and wanted to come back to the phrase,
You can also get 4:3 to 16:9 crop/resize values from FitCD.

How, in the context of resizing/cropping the video from 4:3 to 16:9, do I make FitCD give me the values I need?

Loading the file only gives the following:

  2. Check the box Anamorphic on the right. Uncheck the ITU box.

It should crop and add borders as needed to show the video "postage stamped." This can allow some players that upconvert to output the video as HD. The video will have black borders on all sides but I'll take resolution over filling the frame with a soft picture anytime.

  3. FitCD is going to make the conversion by adding black bars to the sides. If that's what you want, then fine. If you want to crop from the top and bottom, then crop a total of 120 for NTSC or 144 for PAL and resize to 720x480/576. That method was thoroughly explained in the other thread to which you linked.
