  1. Hello.

I have an ATI USB 600 capture device, a great VS deck and an external TBC. I have to capture a number of old VHS tapes and was planning to use VirtualDub to uncompressed AVI. The tapes are quite dirty and will need cleanup, thus the desire for uncompressed AVI capture. VirtualDub also allows for access to the Video Processor AMP controls.

Unfortuantely, video is only one compoent of the capture. The other is audio and I will require real time external processing of the audio.

Which bring me to the problem. VirtualDub's audio preview feature does not work. Enabling it causes a lot of dropped frames. The PCs specs are through the roof from processor to bus speed to hard drive access times and throughput. It is doubtful you woudl build a better machine for less than $5000. It isn't a hardware issue.

Can someone suggest an alternative capture program to VirtualDub that allows access to teh prcessor amp's controls, captures to uncompressed AVI, and allow hearing the audio during recording?

  2. You want lossless compressed avi (huffyuv or lagarith or DV) not uncompressed

  3. Yeah, my bad.

I meant to say lossless compressed AVI. (Trying Ladarith, have HuffyUV)

I'll give Virtual VCR a try.

    Thanks

  4. Thanks for the suggestion, but Virualvcr appears not to work with the ATI TV Wonder 600, any other sugestions? ABout to send the lot of this stuff out to a "professional". I cannot imagine trying to clean these tapes up without being able to hear the audio.

There's a program in the Tools/software area called Stoik . Perhaps give that a try.
