Something's happened to my installation of avidemux_2.5.4.

It correctly opens the file I want to work with, but when I select "auto/optical disc" to set it up to make a DVD, the window reverts back to the blank appearance it first has when the program is first opened. No video being displayed.

Then, it suddenly opens a DIFFERENT video, the last one I worked on.

I've tried clearing out the computer's TEMP cache, but that hasn't worked. I've rebooted the computer. That hasn't worked.

I've also looked into uninstalling avidemux, in hopes a re-install will fix the problem

I opened control panel and chose the "uninstall programs" option, but avidemux_2.5.4 doesn't show up as a program.

How can I install a new version if I can't get rid of the old one? Why is it not showing up as a program?

Also, why would avidemux dump the file I want to work on and open a different file when I choose "optical disc"?

    Help...

Go to the file folder in 'program files' and select 'uninstall.exe'

What is this auto function for ? Never used it. Does it automatically make a dvd ? If so I would suspect the program looks for a dvd in your burner. But I am only guessing.

I have 2.4.4 and that preset is not in there. I'm guessing you are throwing some "off the wall", downloaded video file in there and expecting it to make a DVD for you?

When you use the "Auto" settings, the program knows what type of file to produce for the purpose you select. For example, is the video file going to be used in an Apple device? Is it going to be used to create a DVD? Etc.

If you have AVIdemux 2.5.4, open it and click on "Auto". It'll give you a pull down menu.

I've seen AVIdemux 2.6, and have NO idea how to work with it, let alone what the "Auto" selection does there.

In 2. 5.4, it does NOT look to burn a DVD, since AVIdemux isn't a DVD burning program. It just converts, modifies, and produces video files that will serve a certain purpose.

Thank you for your input on how to uninstall.

    I have 2.5.4, not 2.4.4.

I'm wasn't throwing any "off the wall" file in there, nor was I expecting the program to make a DVD, since AVIdemux doesn't make DVDs.

Nothing was said in my opening post about trying to make a DVD. What I said was that the program was, for some reason, going back to a previous file I'd worked on when I selected "Auto/Optical Disc/DVD", apparently DUMPING the file I'd actually opened. Why it went back to a file I'd worked on YESTERDAY and had NOT selected suggested something was wrong with the program.

I've used the "DVD" option many times, and it produces a file that DVD burning programs can work with.

To solve this, I finally got rid of 2.5.4, tried installing 2.6, saw it was too unfamiliar, got rid of it, and then RE-installed 2.5.4.

The new installation is working fine, and it's not opening the wrong file. The project I was trying to finish turned out the way intended.

A complete contradiction to your first post:

I suspect you have a Windows problem, not a avidemux problem.
