I have a dvd playet ESS chipset vibrato II, CAVS 105g. I would like to remove the dvd mechanism and put a hard disk.
The player does not have a USB facility.
Kindly assist on how this can be achieved. If a circuit would need to be added to facilitate the usb connection to the hdd, or we can use the connections that were initially for the dvd mechanism and connect them to the hard disk.(Would this require formatting the hard disk for iso)
Regards

What do you hope to achieve by this hair-brainer of an idea ?
HDDs inside dvd-recorders have their own circuitry/connections. How would you expect to be able to play from this HDD ? -
Such a player also needs an operating system and an HDD controller, not just a plugin.

Thank you for the responses.
@DB83 It is a dvd player (not a recorder).
It also plays karaoke files. I have stored all my karaoke files on a hdd. As of now the files are about 50GB, and the much I can get from a DVD (Double Layer) is 8GB. I hope that by having the player read the contents from the internal hdd, then I would not have to constantly change the Disks when accessing the Karaoke songs. Unfortunately the player does not currently have support for USB.
However, the manufacturer used to upgrade the DVD's from a non-USB to a USB for a fee. They don't offer that service anymore. I have tried to request to the manufacturer for the same.
The manufacture has offered both firmwares for the same player. One without the USB functionality and One with the USB functionality.
@sanlyn I agree Sanlyn.
I have 9 dvd players of the same make and model, that I use to play the karaoke files. 5 of them have issues reading some dvd's (I think the lenses are worn out) .
I was hoping by replacing the optical mechanism with a hard drive/ USB drive, would solve the current mechanical issues.
The manufacture is currently offering the same player, with a USB functionality. I hope we can add the functionality to my players and save me the costs of buying the new model with usb.
Again, I appreciate the responses, feel free to ask any other question. -
The functionality included in ADDING HDD capability is, in essence, the same functionality needed when adding USB capability (though that also requires "removable" drivers) - it's not a trivial upgrade, so your best bet is to just upgrade to the UBS-capable models. For those where you cannot upgrade (either because of inavailability or unwillingness on the part of the manufacturer), you are basically stuck with either buying new devices or living with things as they already are.

Thanks Scott for your feedback.
Upgrading to the USB capable models is the best option, I agree.
I was thinking besides the manufacturers, someone might have the capability to upgrade for me my current players to be USB compatible, for a fee -
There might an advanced tech around who could work a mod like that (possibly). But for the amount of the '"fee", you could buy a player.

The amount may be enough to buy a player. If I had one or two players, I would proceed to purchase the USB model. Since I have 9 units, I hope collectively the investment will be worth.
I welcome any advanced tech, who can assist in this -
What may I ask do you do with 9 units ?
But the economics is the same whether there is 1 or 9. A mod will require circuit board(s), OS, remote etc x no of units. The cost of these is likely, including installation, to exceed what the cost of new units (and do you really need 9 of them ?). -
@DB83 I use the 9 units for karaoke my shows. At times I have multiple events.
The manufacture has offered the firmware for both the non USB and the USB enabled.
I have tried to upgrade the firmware on the non-USB with the firmware of the USB enabled. It has updated succesfully. (bank30.rom)
On the controller board of the non USB player, there seems to be a facility for USB already, but no port has been inserted yet. I hope this will make the execution easier/cheaper.
I shall post some images -

Thanks for all your support. I will proceed as recommended. Will purchase the new version with USB.
