I used Picasa movie maker to create a slide show with music. I converted the WMV file to AVI using Smart DVD Creator Pro (which I've done before but not for a while).

Problem: The created AVI file (created using XVID codec) runs fine on the computer, but when I burn it to a DVD+RW, it won't play on all computers nor in a DVD player. (Playing using various computer players, the audio comes through but not the video.)

It seems the problem must be in the DVD burning, but am not sure what is going on.

    I appreciate any thoughts...

Run the AVI through a utility like MediaInfo (in tree/text mode), and copy and paste the information here. There may be something about the video that the 'other players' don't like. (The DVD player plays AVI videos, right? DVD/BD players do tend to be a bit more strict/picky about the specifications of the videos they'll play.)

Thank you! Will try it this evening. Yes, the DVD player plays an AVI file I made some years ago.

  4. Most computers will not have an Xvid decoder installed. Most DVD players will not play AVI files.

    Hmmm...

I thought AVI was what I wanted to convert to.

What should I convert the .wmv file to?

    Thanks!

  6. Why didn't you make a DVD from it to begin with, since you're using something called Smart DVD Creator? You'll have better compatibility with DVD players.

And rather than doing this in stages, wasting extra time and getting a lousy result (pictures to WMV to AVI), use the free and excellent DVD Slideshow GUI to make a DVD directly from your pictures. The developer is often here to answer questions.

'Hmmm...' yourself. If you're playing it on a DVD player, doesn't it stand to reason you'd want to make a DVD? And don't make a useless WMV at all.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will do that!

I've got little experience with this and didn't know how else to proceed.

I greatly appreciate the willingness of folks to help out on this forum.
