Hello all. Have a reasonably simple question I need a simple answer for.
I have some VHS tapes I am attempting to convert and store on my computer. Some are from an NTSC camera and some were made in Europe with a PAL camera. I am in the US and have only the NTSC VHS player and a Homestech converter. The conversion worked great on the NTSC, but of course I get nothing but lines and poor audio on the PAL tapes.
What are the options? It would appear I would need to get the tapes converted to NTSC and then I could convert them myself. Any other options that do not require buying a PAL VCR? Thanks.

The only option is to get a PAL VCR or have someone who has one capture for you. I don't know if your capture device supports PAL, so you may need another if you go the PAL VCR route. There are some converting VCRs around (play PAL tapes, output standard NTSC video) but they are expensive and don't do a great job.

The capture device will work with PAL, but really did not want to purchase one just for a couple of tapes. Looks like I will need to find a service to convert them.

If you just have a few tapes then paying a service is not a bad idea at all.
Ethics don't allow him to promote himself, but if you can't find a service where you live, our user lordsmurf can also do this sort of thing for you for a fee. He is obsessive about quality so I'm sure he'd do a good job. -
