yo,guys. (Please bear it in mind that I'm not very clever.) Trying to make a DVD from an old tape: Philips VR686 tape player > Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD recorder > a TV. After about 20 attempts to record a disc I DID it!! Played ok, quality good. Flushed with success I finalised the disc. Now it won't play on anything, even the DMR-E50 that recorded it. 'Unsupported', it says. (What sort of mother is that?!) It is probably a basic 'operator error' (see first bracketed comment). Any ideas? Cheers!

And you recorded on what? DVDR? DVDRW? DVDRAM?
Do you see any files if you browse it on your computer? -
Yo, Baldrick! DVD-R PC was not involved in my failed attempt.

I don't know what "DVD-R PC" means. The Panasonic is compatible with all the disc types Baldrick mentioned, although DVD-RW is not playable on some players and DVD-RAM is even less compatible. DVD-R is the universal standard. But the Panny should be able to read discs it created and finalized itself.

Mm, by "it" I think you mean the Panny's led readout. The message there would be "UNSUPPORT", not "unsupported". It means that the disc loaded can't be played.
20 attempts to record from VHS seems rather odd, but anyway. . . .You say that DVD-R PC was "not involved". What exactly was involved, if not DVD-R?Last edited by sanlyn; 25th Mar 2014 at 03:04.

Looks like he meant to type TWO separate sentences: Yo, Baldrick! DVD-R; PC was not involved in my failed attempt.
Brainiac -
Yep. Makes more sense, but I wasn't quite sure. I wonder if the O.P. found whether or not his PC can read files on the disc.
It could always be a defective disc. But not 20 in a row.Last edited by sanlyn; 25th Mar 2014 at 03:05.

Yo, Guys! Corrections, etc: The first 2 times I attempted to record the tape to DVD I had not set the m/c to record from A2 (the AV2 scart). The next 5 times the m/c cut out after about a minute then displayed RECOVER for a while. (This, I believe, was temperature-related, so I separated the units and opened the window.) The next attempt was successful!...until I FINALISED. ('20 attempts' was hyperbolic) The DMR-E50 manual says use DVD-R or DVD-RAM. Sanlyn: Sorry, it WAS 'UNSUPPORT'. Brainiac: Correcto! I had left a huge gap between R and P but the computer had corrected it. I will attempt the recording again...with the window open! Cheers!!

Yo, Guys!! Just recorded another DVD of Keli Roberts' Workout for my sister-in-law. It plays ok from the DMR-E50 but the Sony player downstairs says CANNOT PLAY. Theory is that it should play on other m/cs when it has been 'finalised'.. isn't it? Last time I did that it rendered the disc useless. What a quandry!! Y'all have yoselves a Merry Christmas, y'heah?! Cheers!!

Your problem is probably related to dying or bad capacitor or ic regulator( in the power board) which is discussed very much on avs forums it is meant for e85 but i done it on e55 and e60 http://www.avsforum.com/t/1055111/whither-the-capacitors-in-panasonic-recorders, many of the panys developed not reading and writing discs because of this problem. It can be also dirty lens or dirty spindle try that also.
