    Greetings... I wish to know if either Nero 12 or Nero 12 Platinum has support for WebM, specifically in Nero Vision. I have Nero 10 and it does not support WebM.

    I cannot find anywhere on Nero's website any answer to this question.

    What I am attempting to do is to convert WebM files to Microsoft DV. Nero 10 allows for conversion to Microsoft DV, but cannot handle WebM files.

    I would prefer to use Nero 12, but if Nero 12 cannot work with WebM files, there may be other alternatives, perhaps using Virtualdub with a filter, or some such freeware solution... any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I have a alternate computer I can try this on that has no Nero product installed. I would hesitate to try out a trial of Nero 12 on the machine already running Nero 10.

    I'll be sure to share what I discover about Nero 12 and WebM compatibility.

    Here's the results of my using the trial version of Nero 12 Platinum...

    the WebM format does not appear as an option when either converting to or converting from another format, nor does it seem Nero recognizes WebM at all.

    I find it very surprising that given the great number of videos appearing on YouTube in the WebM format that there are very, very few programs or utilities that can handle the format for any kind of video editing or conversion.

    There would be a lot of demand for this, I would think, so perhaps such programs/utilities will be coming down the road.

    If anyone is aware of anything out there that can edit and/or convert WebM files, I'd appreciate knowing about them.

    Thanks!

  4. I just did a Google search for 'webM conversion utility' and got over 600,000 hits. Pick one.
    Doing a Bing search turns up about half that amount but the results seem to be more relevant.

    I have finished searching for and trying out both free and paid utilities to convert WebM videos to the Microsoft DV codec. I've chosen to use the most codec-friendly conversion software I personally have ever come across, the AVS Video Converter offered by www.avs4you.com.

    Although the software description does not include WebM as a supported format, it indeed can convert WebM to Microsoft DV and also the reverse.

    The convert-to-WebM option appears in the drop-down menu on the GUI. The convert-to-DV option is buried in the AVI-output menu; from there you need to select the "FFDS" option and from there select "DV".

    You can do a wide variety of customizations to both the video and audio formats and save customized settings for future use.

    I'm extremely happy with the results the software has produced.

    The software comes in both a freeware and a paid version. The free version is fully functional with no time limits but places a watermark on rendered videos. The paid version has no watermarking.

    The direct link to the software is http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx

    The list of supported formats that currently appears on their website are below, but some other formats are also supported (such as WebM):

    Read: HD Video (inc. Blu-ray video, AVCHD, MPEG-2 HD and WMV HD), AVI (DivX, Xvid, etc.), DV AVI, MP4 (inc. Apple iPad, Android tablets and Sony PSP), WMV, 3GP, 3G2, QuickTime (MOV, QT), DVD, VOB, VRO, MPEG-1, 2, 4, TOD, MOD, MPG, DAT, VCD, SVCD, Real Video (RM, RMVB), ASF, ASX, MJPEG, H.263, H.264, DVR-MS, MKV, OGM, FLV, F4V, AMV, MTV, TS, M2TS, M2T, MTS, DPG, NSV, FLI, FLC, CDG, PPT, GVI, TRP, GIF, WTV.

    Write: HD Video (inc. Blu-ray video, MPEG-2 HD and WMV HD), AVI (DivX, Xvid, etc.), MP4 (inc. Sony PSP, Apple iPod and Archos), WMV, 3GP, 3G2, QuickTime (MOV, QT), SWF, FLV, F4V, DVD, MPEG-1, 2, 4, MPG, MJPEG, H.263, H.264, MKV, MPEG1 DPG, AMV, MTV, GIF, TS, M2TS.

  7. VirtualDub will load webM through ffdshow (free solution):

    DirectShowSource("1.webm",fps=29.97) #whatever fps source has, update accordingly

    Thanks for your response. Could you further explain what steps I specifically need to take in order to utilize your solution? I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to VirtualDub.

    I do have the plugin for VirtualDub that lets it recognize DirectShow codecs and I can successfully output files in those formats, such as Microsoft DV. However, I have tried loading WebM files in VirtualDub but they will not load. I get the message "No Video".

    I realize the WebM frame rate may be different than my target (the target being 29.97fps).

    If I can get VirtulDub to accept WebM files, that would certainly be terrific.

  9. even if you have 64bit OS in your PC, do this:

    install Avisynth 32 bit https://www.videohelp.com/download/Avisynth_258.exe
    install ffdshow 32 bit, https://www.videohelp.com/download/ffdshow_rev4496_20121213_clsid.exe
    then write in notepad -sure with correct frame per second (fps) 25 or 30 or 24 or 29.97 of your source, no spaces or foreign characters for your webm filename:

    DirectShowSource("your_video.webm", fps=29.97)

    change extention of your notepad file whatever.txt to whatever.avs and drop that onto VirtualDub icon on desktop or load it into VirtualDub -file/open video file

    understand that correct avisynth script (name.avs) is behaving like VFW video file in your computer now after you install Avisynth, for example your Windows Media Player will play it also etc.

  10. or use this script if your source is 29.97, this way it is ready for DV encoding within VirtualDub, you need to resize for NTSC DV size and make your video interlace :

    DirectShowSource("your_video.webm", fps=29.97)
    LanczosResize(720,480)
    ChangeFPS(60000,1001)
    SeparateFields().SelectEvery(4,0,3).Weave()

    if it is 25fps or 24fps your script would be different a bit ...

    Thank you very much for the further explanations. Sorry for the delay in responding, but now that the holiday week is over I can turn my attention back to this issue and I will let you know the results.

    Additionally, for anyone that might be interested in the total lack of WebM support in Nero, I can now report that their stand-alone Recode 12 does not offer WebM support either.

  12. I forgot to set "bottom field first" for DV avi:
    Code:
    DirectShowSource("your_video.webm", fps=29.97)
    LanczosResize(720,480)
    ChangeFPS(60000,1001)
    AssumeBFF()
    SeparateFields().SelectEvery(4,0,3).Weave()
    and of course if your video is 16:9 you have to letterbox your video or crop it to make 4:3 DV avi, if you need widescreen DV it should be ok
