  1. I have VirtualDub 1.9.11 and im trying to edit a .avi file that i recorded with bandicam. The other day it worked fine but i accidentally deleted the codec i think and dont know which one i had. I have tried several: xvid, cccp, ffdshow but i dont know how to use them. I just installed them and restarted my computer, but that didnt work. I dont want to convert my file to some other format, i would like it to just work like it did in the past. The error message i get is this.

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'MPEG' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to
decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows
    Media Player, are not suitable

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the video codec in the avi file? Identify with mediainfo.

Or use one of the 32893298329832983298 other converters like video to video converter, freemake video converter, xvid4psp, handbrake, etc.

It looks like MPEG in an AVI container.
If you click Start > ffdshow > VFW Configuration, under the 'Decoder' tab, scroll down to 'MPEG in avi' and enable it.

You've got MPEG1 video + MP2 (Mpeg1Layer2) audio inside an AVI. Very NON-standard. Use something like AVIMux-GUI or AV Splitter to demux to raw/elementary streams (you'll get an *.M1V and an *.MP2 file).
Re-mux them with Imago or similar MPG multiplexer into a standard MPG file, and you should be able to play in just about EVERYTHING!

Their has to be another way i have already split 10+ of these bandicam videos using VirtualDub before. Maybe ill try a system restore i seriously dont know how i messed it up. I know i was trying to get camtasia codecs but i ended up uninstalling both the codecs and camtasia, and i think i accidentally deleted the codec virtualdub was using

  8. I even tryed recording a short video with no sound at all just mpeg-1 video codec and it still wont work even tho i clearly have mpeg-1 setting to libavcodec in ffdshow. Maybe im using 32 bit and 64 bit? i will check

  9. Dont worry about it, i will just use easy video splitter, thats all i was using videodub for anyways. Its a shame i couldent get it to work. Thanks for all the help. If anyone can actually find out whats going on i will go back to videodub but i dont feel like waisting time and pulling my hair out.

  10. 32 bit programs require 32 bit codecs. 64 bit programs require 64 bit codecs. Neither can see the others codecs.

Well can you just D/L the codec and reinstall it I'm guessing you registered your Bandicam so the codec should install fine.
