  1. I’m trying to rip ”jibon nouka” movie dvd publish by laser vision (BD) but i fail [ No scratch and play fine on Dvd player]. because of bad sectors. I'm assuming this is due to copy-protection. I havetried handbrake, mtr 4, Ripitme, Dvdshrink, dvd fav (this one don’t even read the disk), win x dvdcopy pro, dvd decrypter, 1click dvd copy -pro, but no joy....... Could be my method of ripping technic was not right?

It finally rip(took long time 6-10 hour) with mtr 4, 1click dvd copy – pro and win x dvd copypro but the affected areas of the copy is not working properly.

Does anyone have anidea how to solve the problem? Is there any better ripping tool to rip laservision dvd with bad sectors?

I tried with "AnyDvd" version 6.6.3.4 and 7120 as well, still no luck!!

This DVD released in 2007, but I am surprised that the recent released of DVD ripper software are not able to rip this DVD.

    It's not copy protection....it's a bad disc.

It may be a bad disc. It could also be related to the fact that this disc is fairly obscure. I looked it up and apparently it's a 31 year old movie from Bangladesh. I'm going to make a wild guess that it's probably not going to sell a million copies in the UK. So there is the possibility that it does use some kind of bad sector copy protection that AnyDVD and DVDFab have not seen before and because the film is obscure (sorry, but outside of the Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi community it is), they don't have any copies to test with. AnyDVD and DVDFab do not get copies of every film released in every country. Films from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have been known to go to unusual lengths to prevent copying so I can't rule out the possibility that it's simply a type of bad sector copy protection that hasn't been used by Hollywood and thus DVDFab and AnyDVD don't know about it.

You might be able to physically repair the disc, depending on the problem. There are three major types of damage:

    1. Scratches on the shiny, reflective underside. A playback laser reads DVD's from the bottom side, reading from the center outward. Simple "disc cleaners" will not repair this problem. You need a slightly abrasive compound that will help smooth the scratch and the area around it so that it does appear as a dip or "rut" when the laser sees it. Some people use toothpaste as a rubbing compound. There are also polishing compounds used to smooth scratches from acrylic and other plastics.

    2. A scratch on the top (label) side which has removed part of the printed label and the silver reflective coating underneath. If laser light shines "through" the damaged part and is not reflected back to the laser, that part of the disc will not play. You can use a silver paint to fill in the missing part of the label: after this dries, use a coat of black paint over it to keep light from shining through the metalized paint. You can also try to find small kits that are used to re-silver and repair mirrors.

    3. A DVD disc consists of multiple layers sandwiched together. A part of one or more layers could be separating. To test for this, hold the disc label-side-up under a good light and press with one finger down into various places on the label. If you see the label distort, bubble upward, or sink downward, that is a spot where a layer is separating. Place the disc onto a firm flat surface, such as a hardcover book. Then on top of it, pile as much weight as you can, preferably a lot of other books, but make sure that anything in direct contact with the disc is perfectly flat, firm, and and smooth. You might have to let this weight press into your disc for a few hours, or overnight. Afterwards, handle the disc VERY carefully, touch only by the edges. Try to mount and read the disc again. Heat from playing could possibly make the problem repeat itself, so try the weights again but give them a longer time to work. I have repaired two old discs in this manner, but it took all day.

A Google search will bring you more ideas. All three of the above repairs worked for me and friends.

  6. @ Baldrick no I have not tried any other computer/DVD reader, but I believe my DVD -Rom is fine. I rip quite a few disks with this DVD – ROM.

How can I overcome this deliberately made bad disk problem? I got three other titles from the same publisher, and all got identical problem.

I did try Ripit4me and follow this tutorial http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110 , but I use 1.7.1.0 version of Ripit4me which don’t has any option to choose FIXVTS.

I did try vobblanker as well as.

    @Sanlyn it’s a brand new disk.

    Any Idea anyone?

Anyway I will upload log file to Sly soft tonight.

It might be brand new, but discs can always be damaged. It's odd that you should have several in the same shape. A log might give more info.

The odds of 4 different DVDs being bad discs is really low. I told you what your problem was in my post. You're screwed.

If you can't live without ripping these discs, you could contact DVDFab or AnyDVD and offer to send them a copy and see if they will agree to work on it for you. A solution for one of the DVDs may well enable all the others to rip. But I doubt that AnyDVD or DVDFab will care enough to spend their own money to purchase obscure DVDs of movies from India/Pakistan/Bangladesh so you'll have to send them one.

Try IsoBuster Pro, I had good luck reading some bad disks using that program.

  14. Finally, it’s copy successfully. No copy protection was found, just drag and drop.

The real culprit was my dvd- rom. I don’t know why they call it superdrive? My creative 8x cd-rom drive with remote control was much better than this so called super drive!!

@ Baldrick many thanks for pointing me to use another dvd reader.

It looks like I have to buy another dvd- rom; any suggestion for cheap replacement of SONY DVD RW DW-D150A will be most welcome.

Thanks everyone for all your help! I really appreciate it!

Often a simple solution is the best. LiteOn makes very popular optical drives. In the budget range I guess they get the better reviews for reliability. But most hardware made today is subject
to such heavy outsourcing, buying just about anything is a lottery. I've been using a couple of budget LiteOn drives for about 4 years now. I don't use my old SONY or LG drives any more,
neither seemed to last very long.
